Hundred Merry Tales

Hello friends- I hope everyone is doing well in these crazy times. I wanted to let everyone know about a new program Shakespeare at Winedale is rolling out as part of the anniversary celebrations - "A Hundred Merry Tales (or More) of Winedale" We just announced this on our Facebook page, but I thought I'd share the info below, since I'm hoping y'all might be interested in participating. All the best, Liz ---------------------------------------- “...that I had my good wit out of the 'Hundred Merry Tales’ — well this was Signior Benedick that said so.” Beatrice, Much Ado About Nothing, 2.1 In his annual Camp Shakespeare email this spring, Doc wrote: "This might be a good time to take turns telling stories to one another as we travel together during this suffering, following the ten in the Decameron during the plague of 1348. Or share with one another ‘journey' stories of our own. Shakespeare’s imagination was alive during the plague years. We need to keep that spirit going and ours!” In that spirit, we are launching “A Hundred Merry Tales (or More) of Winedale.” We are inviting anyone who has a personal connection to Winedale — as a player, student, patron, local resident, employee, you name it — to contribute a short video of you telling a story of a favorite Winedale “journey” or moment. It could be about Winedale the place, or your times at Winedale as a student, really any story that has Winedale as its center or setting, since the journey out to Winedale is the beginning of a lifelong love for all of us. The invitation to tell stories has been a key theme to the reunion season this year, and we’d love to build an online “virtual Barn” where we can gather to share and hear stories of playing, working, and experiencing rich moments of life at Winedale. This is also a way of gathering stories to permanently archive them. The stories can be filmed in any way you feel would best help tell the story. We are suggesting a five-minute limit. Winedale 50th Reunion Update--Adjusted Plans

Hi all, My sincere apologies for not being in touch sooner about the 50th Reunion Plans. Let me confirm what many have expected or surmised...we will not meet in person this summer to celebrate as planned. James' Shakespeare at Winedale class will not meet in person at Winedale and Doc's & Robin's Camp Shakespeare will not be in person either. Both programs will continue with meetings and celebrations virtually and expect to move the in-person programs to next summer. A small group of us has been meeting and talking on Zoom about the 50th Reunion activities. Yes, we will have an in-person reunion in future, but for now, let's collaborate on ways to celebrate online. We want to keep the dates we'd planned, Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15, for the online 50th celebrations. Doc confirmed that we will be allowed to share the new Winedale Documentary "Take Pains, Be Perfect" with our community on the evening of August 14. We still hope to share some music that evening as well. People like Mary, Alice, Gayle, and Maggie, who were already making plans for the programming on Saturday, August 15 will continue to make plans for how we can celebrate that day. >From the beginning of our 50th anniversary planning, we have expressed these desires: • to include as many people as possible in the celebration, including past participants, friends, family, patrons and donors • to make time to visit and connect with one another and • to share and listen to stories about our experiences. While we are sad not to realize these desires in person this year, we are lucky that we can still reach out to one another and connect over our shared experience, our love for Winedale, our love for Shakespeare, and our love for one another.
