I have proposed a change the site notice, here:
http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Sitenotice#Proposed_site_notice
The Main Page already says "Welcome to Wikivoyage" at top. We don't
want to be redundant like that right on the Main Page. So my proposal
removed that part from the site notice. I also feel the site notice
should not distract from the page content. So I would not use bold
text in the site notice.
We could discuss this on above linked site notice talk page perhaps.

Hello all,
I've nominated myself and Ian (Inas) for CheckUser
status<http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:Administrator_nominations#Checkuse…>.
We have some concern that some parties hostile to Wikivoyage (which are
already blocked) will spend the week of our launch (January 15!) trolling,
disrupting, and trying to drive off new contributors. Having local
checkusers would make it easy to see if multiple ips or accounts are being
used to circumvent blocks already in place.
We need 25 statements of support, so please do comment there!

Greetings,
The semi-open secret of our launch has already leaked (search
"Wikivoyage" in Google News for a sampler), so I was thinking of jumping
the gun a bit and posting this a day early. Feedback very welcome, the
ending needs some work.

I notice that when I go to save, the site currently tells me "By
clicking the "Save page" button, you ... agree to release your
contribution under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL." I don't
mind my contributions being licensed under more-or-less any open
license, and I know WMF generally uses CC+GFDL for historical reasons,
but I suspect that there might be problems using it here.
Originally, WT used CC-BY-SA 1.0, which lacked an "or any later
version" clause, so it could not just be switched to 2.0 or whatever.
After much discussion, the WT license was changed to CC-BY-SA 3.0 and
it is still there. I am not sure what license (the independent site)
WV used, or whether they made changes over time.
As I understand it, everything we imported from WT was CC-BY-SA 3.0
licensed. That gives us the right to use it & modify it, but I don't
think to re-license it under GDFL. We know perfectly well that
Internet Brands are litiginous; does this give them something they
could be annoying about?
I realize this is a touchy subject, but .. are we ready to switch out
the logos or are we still waiting for something to happen?
Cheers,
Erik

Yes we need to make the project know so that we can start attracting
readers and mentions in the press.
More editors will hopefully be a good thing.

I just posted something at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Xiamen#Tourism_and_Shopping_Sections
I think it points to a more general problem. Given that in many
cases both WV and WP will have articles on the same place, do
we need to clarify what goes in which article, which things should
be in both, how the style will differ?
I know there are policies that cover much of this; I have read
most of them and remember some. My question is whether
we need anything more since we can expect a large influx of
editors soon and many will have WP experience but not WP
or even WT.
Great news! The logo is being deployed[1].
But what about the Favicon that shows up on browser tabs? If we use
one based solely on the logo image, it will look dull against the
typical gray browser tab.
So please express your '''support''' or '''objection''' to the favicon
of the logo image with a white circle added behind it to make it show
up againt the typical dull gray browser tab, here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikivoyage/Logo#Favicon
Thanks!

Hey Also
I shall be a little busy next week. Is there anyone who want to lead the
site notice stuff? I posted one request here
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Sitenotice#Site_notice_regard…
Not exactly sure how to do it. Maybe Richard or Kim could help? I guess we
need to figure out what exact it should say. Maybe:
"Wikivoyage, a free travel guide that anyone can edit, is officially
launching this week as the WMF's 13th official project. We invite you to
join us."
We would link to Wikivoyage as well as link to the official press release
which will come out from the WMF.
