Hello all,
a while ago I asked the folks from the Semantic MediaWiki project to look into how they feel the SMW extension could be put to use on Wikinews. This could be part of a larger strategy to examine whether SMW could/should be deployed within the Wikimedia project family. Please see:
http://ontoworld.org/wiki/Wikinews
for their report. If you are unfamiliar with Semantic MediaWiki, please see
http://ontoworld.org/wiki/Semantic_MediaWiki
for a description of the software. Your comments about this idea would be welcome; questions about the software are probably best left on the talk page of the Wikinews page above, or sent directly to the developers.
I think thats a great idea. I love the idea behind Semantic MediaWiki.

Considering that Semantic MediaWiki is basically what DynamicPageList should have become over time, I think it's totally something that Wikinews could use. If the extension is functional, perhaps the best thing to do would be to deploy it on something like en.wikinews and see if users like it.

Looking at this, I think semantic mediawiki would be useful to commons. I think (if i'm reading this right), you would be able to do keyword like searches (All pictures that are of ballons and are red, for a list of pictures of red ballons etc. Then if you add exif info, you could do a lot.).
