CC is updating its licenses: http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/6017
I don't see anything Earth-shattering. We may want to switch Wikinews to CC-BY 3.0 once the update is complete.

How do we go about doing this. (as far as my understanding goes) there is no update clause (like the gfdl with the or at any later version thingy) so we'd have to track down every single contributor to do this. Or would we do this like or transition from PD. first articles are licensed as pd {{pd-article}} then later as CC-BY 2.5, then later as CC-BY 3 ?

Hmm, you appear to be correct - I was under the impression that all CC>2.0 licenses had an upgrade clause, but this only appears to be the case for the -SA licenses, and only for derivative works. Given this, it's probably not worth the trouble to make the switch.
