Looks like I missed a bunch...
Jason, Wikimania is intended to be a social event for Wikimedians
to attend freely. I'm certain that the Jury took LGBT rights into question
when they were deciding on the venue for this event. We had smart people
on our Jury team this year.
You'll also note in the Wikimania-l mailing list that
Alexandria actually came in *last place* with regards to local laws, with Atlanta
pulling the first with 255 votes. But this was one of 12 aspects looked at during
the judging prospects. Overall, Alexandria was, according to the jurors, the best
place to hold Wikimania this year. Here, [1], there was discussion about LGBT
rights in Egypt along with the rest of the meeting's discussions.
