I'm guessing confidentiality is the purpose for such a list. I'm not sure,
however, that private mailing
lists<http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/04/wikipedia_secret_mailing/>are
necessarily great things right now. I understand the need for some
discretion as concerns certain stories, but even so, do you want *all*
accredited reporters to have access to all of that confidential information?
If the answer is "no", then perhaps continued back-channel communication is
the best thing (and even that's regrettable on a news site where everything
is supposed to be out in the open and everyone should be able to participate
in any stage of article preparation he might wish).
I used Google Documents (Writely at the time) to collaboratively write
several *slightly confidential* stories with Wikinewsies a few years ago.
For the most part, they were stories that were embargoed for some reason
until a certain date or time.
Just rambling...

Wasn't the mail list servers moved arround a while

As for mailing list, has there been a need for one yet? If there is, I
say why not. but if there isn't, one no need to go creating what could
be considered cabal this that without reason.
