Hi,
Great list Vivek. You might want to add pictures from:
The Pearl of the Orient (Revolving restaurant on top of the Ambassador Hotel)
The Queens Neclace in the evening from one of the buildings at Nariman Point (Air India Building or The Oberoi Hotel would probably give you the best result from Nariman Point and from Chowpatty you could get Nariman Point from Mafatlal Bath Club or Thackers Restaurant).
Cooperage Ground,
Oval,
Cross and Azad Maidans,
Colaba Causeway,
Bombay Stock Exchange Building (Dalal Street),
Bhuleshwar (With its host of temples! 70 odd I think),
Royal Opera House,
Town Hall (Asiatic Library),
Lions Gate,
Old Custom House
INS Vikrant (I think its currently at Oysters Rock),
Tata and Amersons Garden at Breach Candy (next to American Embassy and Breach Candy Hospital),
Host of foreign Embassies across Malabar Hill, Altamount Road and Carmichael Road
Antilia (Mukesh Ambani's Residence)
Priyadarshini Park (Napeansea Road),
Raj Bhavan and Varsha (CMs Bungalow on Napeansea Road)
Ruparel College, Jaihind, KC, HR, St, Xaviers College, Cathedral, J.B. Petit, Campion Schools (and a long list of others - however you may be quicker getting students from Schools/Colleges uploading pics of their own campus),
The Holy Name Cathedral at Colaba (I think that is the seat of the Archbishop of Bombay),
Afghan Church,
R.C. Church,
The Cotton Exchange Building,
World Trade Centre (Cuffe Parade)
Bombay High Court
Koli Stadium and other installations in Navy Nagar, Colaba (You will probably need Armed forces permission for this)
Hindu Gym, Islam Gym, Parsi Gym, Wilson Gym, Police Gym (Marine Drive)
Churchgate and Bombay Central Stations
Taraporewala Aquarium
Ranibaug Zoo
Gwalia Tank Maidan (from where the 1942 Quit India Movement was launched)
Juhu Airport/Sahar Airport when your doing Juhu Beach
Mantralaya and Vidhan Bhavan
David Sasoon Library and Sasoon Docks
The list goes on - but Im sure you can get an idea from the above.

Subject: [Wikimedia-in-mum] Wikipedia 10th Anniversary celebration Mumbai photo walk
Hi,
I would like to know the places we should cover during the Wikipedia Mumbai photo walk.
From my limited knowledge of Mumbai I propose the following places. (In no particular order)
1) Mumbai CST
2) BMC
3) Flora Fountain
4) Gateway of India
5) Hotel Taj
6) Kaala Ghoda
7) Jehangir Art Gallery
8) Brabourne Stadium
9) The Wankhede Stadium
10) TIFR
11) Prince of Wales Museum.
12) Mani Bhavan
14) Marine Drive
15) Hanging Gardens.
16) Kamla Nehru Park
17) Chowpatty
18) Juhu Beach
17) Haji Ali Mosque
18) Tower of Silence
19) Chor Bazar
20) Sanjay Gandhi National Park
21) Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market (Crawford Market)
22) Malabar Hill.
23) Nariman Point.
24) Elephanta Caves
25) Raja Bhai Clock Tower
Please propose any more places that should be added to this list.
I fully understand that all these places cannot be covered within the
2 days 12th and 13th suggested for the photo walk, so let us choose
some for the photo walk and maybe start a Wikipedia Mumbai project
which will attempt to cover all these places over a small period of time
after the 10th Anniversary celebrations.
We will also collect information on these places so that the overall
quality and number of articles on Mumbai will increase. All this can
be done over a small period of time.

Hey all,
I'm glad that y'all finally have a place. May not be able to make it today
but I am game for the photo walk. Vivek has been in touch with me and he
said there should be a photo marathon + editing marathon. The photographer
who uploads the most number of Mumbai photos to Commons, and editor who
edits the most Mumbai related articles can get a clap.
Decide the day, could be Wednesday/Thursday and keep me posted.
Cheers,
Mahafreed.

Hi, all.
In addition to the advisory here:
We wanted to provide you with a draft of the press release we will
send to press on January 13 630PM UTC. We will send an updated
version which will include quotes form Sue and Jimmy then. Like the
advisory, you are free to use however you like. You can add local
information, take out information or use it as it is.
How to use it: I think the best thing to do is start translating it
now. Then, when we send you the final with Jimmy and Sue's quotes on
January 13, it will allow you to translate those quickly and send to
press then.
To localize it further, you can include how many events are happening
in your region and include details about them. If you participated in
the fundraiser this year, you can insert information about how much
you raised locally.
If you have questions about how to localize, let me know and we can
work on it together.

Moka Pantages
San Francisco, January 15, 2011 -- On this day ten years ago, a
website with a funny name invited people everywhere to come together
to create a free encyclopedia. The initial results were underwhelming.
The article "Astronomer" simply said: "Scientist whose area of
Research is Astronomy." Sweden: "Country in Northern Europe.
Inhabitants are called Swedes. Language spoken is Swedish. Capital is
Stockholm." Physics: "Physics is a very broad subject."
Following these humble beginnings, Wikipedia grew quickly, and 1,000
articles were written in less than a month. Over the next five years,
many new language versions were launched, and Wikipedia began to
surpass traditional reference sources in breadth and depth. The secret
to its success: anyone can edit any article. In January 2006,
Wikipedia volunteer Gareth Owen wrote on his user page: "The problem
with Wikipedia is that it only works in practice. In theory, it's a
total disaster."
Wikipedia is now consulted by more than 400 million people every
month. It provides instant access to high quality and in-depth
information, free of charge and free of advertising. In the last
decade, a vast and unique global volunteer community has come together
to create more than 17 million articles in 270 languages, advancing
the cause of free knowledge for every person on the planet.
Today, January 15, the Wikipedia community is coming together in
almost 300 locations all over the planet to celebrate the 10th
anniversary of the free encyclopedia. From a conference in New York to
a concert in Prague, from the launch of a new school project in
Nairobi to a museum bootcamp in Amsterdam, from a beer-meet in
Bucharest to a film screening in Tel Aviv, the events are organized by
volunteers and Wikimedia chapters, as well as independent supporters.
The events are open to participation by anyone and reflect the
diversity of the community.
Wikipedia is operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a charitable
non-profit organization established by Wales in 2003. It is entirely
supported by donations, and just completed the most successful
fundraiser in its history, with more than 500,000 individual donations
totaling more than $16 million.

Hello
I would like to add that it be mentioned in the press release that the
Mumbai event is held in association with/with support from Technovanza,
VJTI's annual technical festival, as I have already suggested to Vivek.
Please let me know how this will be done.
Cheers,

Present: Pradeep Mohandas, Moksh Juneja, Vivek Cherian and Kundan Amitabh
1. We started off with the clearance letter we received from VJTI confirming
it as the venue.
2. We moved on to the article of food. We're not clear yet about receipt of
finances. We now plan to have customised cake with Wikipedia logo/Wikipedia
10 logo, a couple of samosas and tea/coffee.
3. Discussions then went on to the events for the day, confirming Barry's
talk, Kundan's talk and Wikipedia videos on loop.
4. We discussed the editing session, where I conveyed that the VJTI article
itself can be used for editing sessions.
5. We also plan to have a session where we show how images can be uploaded
to Wikimedia Commons. We also hope to share the various licenses applicable
for the same. The images will be collected by a photowalk/Wikipedia takes
Mumbai type event on the coming Wednesday/Thursday. The details of the
Wikipedia Takes Mumbai will be updated via a separate email.
At the end of the discussions, the following tasks were alloted:
1. Pradeep: Find the videos which can be played on loop at the event; Small
presentation on Wikimedia Commons uploading work.
2. Moksh: press release (one has been provided by Wikimedia Foundation; we
will localise it) and printing work (brochure)
3. Vivek: Standees, poster design, banner design work
4. Kundan: improvement on his talk to involve a beginner level audience.
Members on the list are also welcome to add to the ideas and help us in our
efforts.
warm regards,
Pradeep Mohandas

Dear Tinu,
We also need some assistance in designing a banner for Wikipedia Mumbai. We
are planning to design around 5 large colorful banners which can then be
used for the anniversary and later/followup events also.
ps: I am not intending the banners to be have anything like 'Wikipedia 10th
Anniversary' on it. A banner with a theme/message that can be used/re-used
to for future events also is what we would like to have.
