hi,
Another update on the Wikipedia X celebrations.
January 16 falls as the day of the Mumbai Marathon 2011. We therefore have
planned for an event in the morning rather than in the evening. Moksh is
running for the Marathon and I think a few Wikipedians may be running as
well. Hence the central Wikipedia X celebrations in Mumbai will be in the
morning.
We have two venues available - Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya at Dadar and the
Coffee Beans and Tea Leaves in Bandra. We're now checking out venues at St.
Xavier's College, a Parsi school near CST, YMCA and Brabourne Stadium
(adjoining halls).
If any of you have other venue suggestions that are good we'd like to
consider them in advance. We hope to finalize the venue in another day or
two.
warm regards,
Pradeep Mohandas
hi,
This is just an update.
At the end of the last Wikipedia meetup, Kundan Amitabh, Vivek Cherian,
Moksh Juneja and I have started to look for a venue for the tenth
anniversary celebrations of wikipedia. We are checking out the following
venues - a school opposite CST railway station at Fort, a Sahitya Akademi
building in Dadar, YMCA in Mumbai Central and Ravindra Natya Mandir at
Prabhadevi. After checking out these venues, we hope to meetup once to
decide on the course of the celebrations for the tenth anniversary of
Wikipedia in Mumbai.
We hope this selected venue becomes the place for the central celebration
for tenth anniversary. In addition, we would also like to encourage others
to hold their own celebrations of Wikipedia - in their workplace, in their
schools or colleges or in their institutions. We only request you to please
not keep these between 4:30 pm and 9 pm on January 15, 2010 when we will be
holding the central tenth anniversary event.
As a support for such events, please feel free to use:
http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumbai to LIST YOUR EVENTS. This way, we think
we would be able to have one central celebration between 4:30 pm and 9 pm on
January 15, 2010 whilst also having other events under the umbrella of
events.
Your suggestions and ideas are welcome.
warm regards,
Pradeep Mohandas

I would just like to repeat that I think that this film should *not* be
screened at Wikimedia 10th events.
Many Wikipedians were offended by it when it showed at Wikimania. Liam
Wyatt spoke up to say that he felt "attacked" by the film. It portrays
completely ludicrous critics as if they are valid. (The guy from The
Register appears in the film to be a serious journalist, but if you know
his coverage of wikipedia, it has been extremely tabloid and
conspiracy-theorist in nature).
Rather than focussing attention on the wonderful community, the film
leaves a sad and bitter taste in the mouth, is demeaning to volunteers,
and rehashes debate points that are 5 years old. The world has moved on
beyond Andrew Keen's pseudo-arguments.

Hi there – sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We are happy
to make sure that anyone who wants or needs one gets a screener in a
timely fashion. We are also arranging for the film to be posted to an
FTP so that people can do a stream preview.
Anyone who wants to be in touch can email info(a)crowdstarter.com which
reaches both Liz and I.
So excited to see what events pop up!

Hello, everyone.
I am pleased to announce, on behalf of Wikimedia Israel, that Israel Post
(the Israeli monopoly postal service) will be stamping all items passing
through several major post offices in Tel Aviv and in Haifa with a special
*Wikipedia 10th Anniversary postmark*.
You can get an idea of what it might look like (Hebrew Wikipedians are still
working on the design) here:
http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%95%D7%99%D7%A7%D7%99%D7%A4%D7%93%D7%99%D7%…
In addition to the anniversary, a _second_ special postmark will be stamped
on all through Wikimania 2011, in August!
the best of our knowledge, this is the first time Wikipedia is featured on
postal materials. Is that correct?
Dedicated philatelists and stamp-collectors among you (and your respective
communities) may want to make arrangements to have something postmarked. In
addition, we'll try to have some stamped items to give away.
This cool way of marking the anniversary is the work of Wikimedia Israel
member Liron Dorfman, who's done excellent outreach work with Israel Post.
Cheers, and happy holidays,
Asaf Bartov

A Community Communications
Kit<http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Communications_Kit>is
being created for the 10th anniversary celebrations.
Quoting from this:
"The first—and most important—thing we can do right now is tell our own
stories <http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Stories> in our own words and
encourage others who care about our work to do the same. Over the past 10
years, what has Wikipedia come to mean to the world? How will it impact the
next ten years? If you don't have a blog or aren't comfortable sharing your
story with media, you can include it
here<http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Stories>
."
Hope we'll see some stories and contributions from India!
Cheers

Hi all,
10th anniversary celebrations of Wikipedia is on 15th Jan 2011 and most of
you must be knowing we are planning for some celebrations in Bangalore as
well. This is a place holder thread where I would request you all to put
forth your ideas. We are meeting this Sunday and planning for this is part
of the agenda. But it would be better we start the discussion here and then
take over in the coming regular monthly meetup. This will also help us get
ideas from people who are unable to attend the coming meetup.
http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangalore is pretty much empty now, but IMO
would be nice to be have something by this weekend.
Regards
