I am please to announce that we are in the process of building the new web site for Wiki Canada. Wiki Canada currently does not have a logo. If you're interested in proposing a logo design for Wiki Canada, please contact me directly. Initially we will need to replace the default wiki logo image which is attached to this email.
There are quite a few mockups on Commons here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_Canada_logo
Some were created during chapter discussions back in early 2007, but I don't know if any discussions about them or decisions on what the logo should look like have taken place since then.

Hi guys,
Just a quick note: generally Wikimedia chapters all have logos that follow the Wikimedia Visual Identity Guidelines ( http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Visual_identity_guidelines), and so should Wiki Canada. (One of the points of the current chapters agreement that chapters sign with the Wikimedia Foundation actually requires this, if I am not mistaken.)
Of course, for unofficial use you might want to use one of the more lighthearted variants currently on Commons, but for official use, you should just go with the established pattern.
Best regards, Bence Damokos

I remember there being a kerfuffle about what we could legally do with the logo. I think that our official logo (for letterhead and whatnot) must use the official chapters pattern. If we want to have an unofficial one (for teeshirts or something), it can't be so close to the official logo that the two would be confused. Once we get some projects going, we'll be free to design some logos for each of those.

I don't think there's any reason to get knickers in a knurl at this point; just pick something for the moment which is *not* a trademark (so, ixnay for the Wikimedia variants logos for the moment) and you'll be fine. Once you have an official chapter status you can shift to any of the very nice Wikimedia logo variants; I kinda like the logo with the leaf replacing the dot.
Biggest thing: pick something you like, even as a 'placeholder' logo. It's gonna get stuck on a lot of things; pick something you'd like to wear embroidered on a polo shirt. If you wouldn't want to wear it, you're probably not too interested in supporting it.

When doing the wikimedians.ca sketch at http://wikimedians.ca/wiki/Main_Page I built a logo[1] from the PD Wikimedia Community logo[2] and the CC-by-sa Maple Leaf[3] which is from the CF roundel.
