Sue has asked me to look for trusted volunteers in British Columbia
and/or around Toronto who would be able to participate in some
conferences about community-building/open access education/non-profit
web work.
Please respond to me directly...thanks.

Suggetion: hold it in Vancouver, taking advanatge of any surplus facilities from the 2010 Olympics.

I would advise against running again next year. For one, next year
won't be the Western Hemisphere's "turn", so right off the bad we
would be at a disadvantage. Plus if we wait for one more year,
hopefully WMC will have completed an initiative or two and will be
strong presence to support the bid.

May I be so bold as to request a day other than the 4th? Since the
summer started, Wednesdays have been my bad day. For that specific
week the Tuesday doesn't work for me either, as I'll be at my
graduation ceremony at the time. I hate to cause problems with
scheduling, but I'd really like to be at the next meeting.
-Jeff "Arctic Gnome" Nichols
Hi everyone,
We have an upcoming meeting for WM Canada planning:
Date: Wednesday, June 2, 2008
Time: 20:00 EDT (00:00 UTC)
We had a bunch of issues with Teamspeak, and ended up having the meeting by
IRC.
It was suggested that we try something like Skype or Asterisk to eliminate
these issues. If we can get some feedback before next Wednesday, I'll try to
put together the instructions so anyone who wants to participate can do so
-- otherwise we'll stick with IRC and Teamspeak.
Meeting Agenda is at:

Please add anything that you'd like to bring up at the meeting there.
Thanks,

Hi there, I remember at one point the idea being tossed around that
Wikimedia Canada could host materials on wikimedia.ca that are PD in Canada,
but not the US.
At [[Commons:Deletion requests/Library and Archives Canada non-PD images]],
I think we've discovered such a class of images: photos taken after 1949,
whose copyright is either corporate or Crown. In Canada, their copyright
expires 50 years after publication, but in the US, since they were not PD in
1996 when the URAA was passed, they won't enter the PD untill 95 years fter
publication. I think it'd be nice to host them somewhere for that 45-year
gap, since Canadian users would be able to use them, and we would know
exactly when they'd be eligible for Commons.
Right now, there are only 4 such images, but clearly there is a huge
potential for more materials (especially when you consider things like the
NFB). Assuming the 4 images get deleted from Commons, I'm going to throw
them up on my Flickr page, with the appropriate copyright notices. However,
I just thought I'd say that I'd be interested in working such a Wikimedia-CA
project -- and more importantly, if there is enough material to warrant
starting such a wiki, in a non-WMF-sanctioned, third-party way, before all
the official chapter stuff gets sorted out, I'd be interested in working on
that. I'd even be willing to get a domain name (cancommons.ca?) and host it
all, if other people were willing to contribute.
Thoughts?

This might be a possibility
