I don't think we could pick a better illustration for the problems with
Wikimedia Canada than this little conversation. We've spent the last few
years squabbling over this kind of trivial detail, and it's exactly what
has kept us from making this chapter happen.
Not really; people have been too
silent about this to squabble. Good
specific proposals have been made by various persons, but serious
commentary and discussion has been remarkably absent.
For me drafting by-laws is relatively easy, but if we are going to build
an organisation that attaches great importance on free and open
participation then people are just going to have to participate
responsibly. The price that one pays for a participatory system is
participation. That means more than hoping that a panic-born chat room
conversation will bring a quick fix.
