Wikimedia New England chapter?

Hello there everyone. The point of this email is very simple. I want to gauge how much support we have in the New England Wikipedian community for forming a chapter. The idea was discussed at the April 22nd general meeting, but hasn't been brought up since. If there's enough support coming from this list for moving forward, my goal would be to have some sort of draft document *ready for final discussion and possible approval* by the next annual general meeting in five months. Hence why I'm asking now. I'd appreciate it if you got back to me with your thoughts, whether it be yes, no, or something else entirely. Many thanks, Sven

Announcing GLAM Boot Camp US 2013

Hello Boston-area Wikipedians, I am excited about all of the recent activity in the Boston area, especially with the success (and future success) of Wikipedia Loves Libraries. I want to announce another GLAM-related event we're planning in the US for those of you who are interested in the idea of GLAM. Wikimedia DC, in cooperation with the National Archives as host, is organizing GLAM Boot Camp, a new model event in which those of us with extensive backgrounds in GLAM projects will be giving a workshop to share experiences and teach skills relevant to the GLAM-Wiki project. The concept for this event was developed at GLAMcamp London, and the concept behind it is to give experienced Wikipedians the skillset and confidence they need to engage in GLAM projects so that, ultimately, GLAM-Wiki will be more representative of the regular Wikipedia editing community. At GLAMcamp, the lack of broad community participation from different types of contributors was identified as one of the effort's key problems. So this is for all of you Wikipedians who like the conce of helping libraries, museums and archives share their knowledge with Wikipedia, even if (especially if) you aren't actually experienced in doing that yet. With Wikimedia DC's help, we are planning to cover the travel costs of all attendees, to ensure that money or geography are not a barrier to participation. I would like to invite anyone who is intrigued to please indicate your interest by answering a few short questions on this Google form: http://goo.gl/TCiYx. This is especially important so we can pin down the ideal weekend to hold the event, and the sooner we get responses, the sooner we can reserve the venue. Wikipedia Loves Libraries outreach and edit-a-thon, this Saturday!

Hello everyone. This Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, I will be hosting a Wikipedia Loves Libraries event at the Cambridge Public Library main branch. Full details of the event are at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Cambridge_Public_Library/Wiki… I would greatly appreciate it if we had a strong showing of Wikipedians, especially because we have ten librarians/archaists/nonprofit-workers showing up for the event, and it would be nice from an outreach standpoint to be able to demonstrate that we have a thriving local community. Additionally, this event was brought to us by Arend Sluis, the President of the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library, and by Alyssa Pacy, the archaist of the Cambridge Public Library, and I get the feeling that if this event goes well, there will be opportunities for future events. But more importantly than all that, I hope you come because this is going to be a fun experience! December 10 meetup location

We talked in the past about maybe alternating between Cambridge and Boston for the meetups, but the last few have been in Clover Food Lab, and we've never really explored finding a Boston location since that place in Chinatown moved. I have, despite having living here for several years, no real grasp of the meeting spots in the city, but I'd like to propose that for the Monday, December 10, 2012 monthly meeting, we find a place on this side of the Charles to meet up. I think that we'd be able to boost attendance a bit if we did. Thoughts? Sven
