This sounds like a totally amazing position. You have to live in
College Park and cover your own relocation, but it pays well for a
pure free-culture and knowledge-liberation job :-) And Dominic can
tell you about the great people you'd be working with. (Hey, Dominic
- are you applying for this?!)
You have just under a week to apply.
Warmly,
SJ

This position is responsible for assignments designed to manage and
extend NARA’s collaborations with Wikipedia/Wikimedia and related
projects. There may also be involvement in activity on other social
media and online access platforms depending on NARA's participation,
collaborations, and projects as directed.. To support these efforts,
the Office of Innovation develops, maintains and coordinates: the

To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Of possible interest to WMF staff and others in San Francisco, State
of the Map US is happening in a few weeks.
http://stateofthemap.us/
Schedule: http://stateofthemap.us/schedule.html
They are discussing a wide variety of things which have crossover to
Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects including use of OSM in
secondary and higher education, technical matters including building
the new editor, vector maps, imports and operations, data analysis,
community and social issues. Looks like fun.
The main State of the Map conference this year is in Birmingham,
England in September. http://2013.stateofthemap.org/
In terms of governance stuff, the OSM Foundation is going through a
similar process of long-term strategy as Wikimedia did many years ago:
trying to decide whether to stay small or expand, how to work with
community members, businesses who use OSM data, developers and so on.
In these discussions, frequent reference is made to Wikimedia as a big
sister. ;-)

Hello,
There's an OKFN meetup this afternoon, 1-4, for those interested
particularly in annotation and open data.
And another event being planned around annotating policy and government
docs this summer.

I don't think that Wikimedia New England is at a stage right now, either
financially or organizationally, where having an equipment pool makes a
tremendous amount of sense, but if there ever was an argument for having
one I think it was made over the past few days by Albin Olsson
(user:Abbedabb at commons)[1], who covered this year's Eurovision contest
using a Nikon D600 from the equipment pool of Wikimedia Sverige, producing
just over 500 photographs and film clips from the event.[2]
Just something to keep in mind for the future, since it would be awesome to
have this kind of thing for events that take place in Boston/New England.

Although history has shown that a) most people that sign up for
Wikipedia-related events in Boston don't actually *show up* to those
events, and b) most people that show up to Wikipedia-related events in
Boston never actually signed up, I none the less feel that it might be a
good idea to pass along the link to the on-Wiki event sign up page. It also
has directions for where everyone is going to meet.

Kudos to Keven for setting everything up,
Sven
I don't know if this requires relocating, but Philip's pretty great
and they are working on excellent wikifrontiers.

Compatriots! The Great American Wiknic [1] approaches. Some questions:
1) Is anyone interested in attending?
2) Is the Boston Commons (where it took place last year) still a good idea
for a location?
3) If enough people express an interest in having a Wiknic in Boston, what
other mailing lists should we let know about the event?
Cheers,
Sven

Dear Wikipedians and open library enthusiasts,
The API to access and play with the DPLA metadata stores has been
released. You can get an API key and test it out (see below, and
https://github.com/dpla ).
If you're interested you can follow the technical discussion on the

Probably simple enough to repeat here:
curl -v -XPOST http://api.dp.la/v2/api_key/you@your_email.com
If you use Gmail, check your spam folder. The key is sent immediately.
