(My computer closed on me, so yeah, I'm rewriting this e-mail).
I'm digressing here from the idea of a Wikimedia Asia conference, but allow me to take the idea a little bit further
Like everyone here, I'd agree that for the most part, we are not yet as prepared as we'd want to for such a big undertaking. Especially given that our individual chapters are only between 0-2 years old, we do need to put a lot of thought into whether or not we consent to making the project a reality. However, as far as I've interpreted what Morgan said during the chapters meeting, WMAsia is not a new organization, but is rather a platform for cooperation between the existing chapters.
I do agree though with Siska and Liam that we need to crawl before we need to walk. A mini-chapters conference among the Asian chapters would actually go a very long way towards professionalizing our chapters, with or without staff, and where we can share best practices among one another. Like the fundraising conference held in Bristol last may, we can all use lessons in how to shore up our finances. In short, we have lots of lessons which we need to learn, and these are pressing issues far more important to our individual chapters.
Maybe we need to take baby steps at this time, before moving onto bigger things.
Regards,
Josh

Liam, what are u doing here? I thought this mailing list for Asia. Australian have 'u,t,r,l' that alphabetically prevent anyone to join. Ted. Tzu was right, but the discussion with Tzu and Theo at the time was not training, but more as meeting, since Taiwanese excell Indonesian in term of coordinating volunteer and coordination in general. The purpose was to swap secret recipee and some sword dead match for fundrising: kung fu vs pencak silat. Morgan, I'm gonna tell u something that u don't want to hear, but i believe a slap in the face is better in the long run than a patt in the back did for short term. Kartika emailed me re: wikimedia asia meeting in Gdansk, and I quote: 'it seem to me that they don't really know what they are doing...'

I agree we need some training on non-profit management, since not many of us have this kind of experiences.

You know what, you guys, seriously if i have a bamboo long enough to hit Hong Kong and Philipines at the same time from Indonesia I will utilize it. In the mean time, until I do, rather than another unmaintain website, why don't one of u ask for a grant to come to Jakarta to receive a non profit/ not for profit management training. Taipei was planning to do this, but Tzu missed it I guess.

Hi Siska,
Yes, Wikimedia Asia includes all existing Asian chapters (HK, ID, IL, IN, PH, TW). I don't see the point of excluding Indonesia since Indonesia after
all
is in Asia. xP

Hi Morgan, is this Asian excluding Indonesia? Since I know nothing about it. If yes, please disregard my comment.
