There are 36 hours remaining for nominations for the affiliate-selected
seats. Self-nominations are allowed.
The two existing chapter appointed board members, Patricio Lorente and
Alice Wiegand, are currently the only candidates, which will save a lot of
volunteer time in the selection process. ;-)
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliate-selected_Board_seats/2014/Nominat…
However more candidates would be good, as the original call for candidates
put it:
"The chapters and thematic organizations wish to appoint two excellent
board members and believe this can best be achieved by selecting from a
large number of varied and skilled candidates.
Therefore, the chapters and thematic organizations call for nominations by
everyone who believes they or someone they know would be suitable.
This call for candidates should be distributed as widely as possible
through such forums as mailing lists, village pumps, and blogs."

There is one bid from Asia, being Bali.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2015_bids/Bali
Honestly the bid doesnt look a winning bid, .. yet?
The first problem I see is the team doesnt appear to have anyone
living in Bali. I am not sure that can be fixed, as I am not aware of
many (regular) Wikipedians on Bali - I know of a few expats who
support Wikipedia and they edit infrequently, but I doubt they would
be keen to be part of a conference organisation team.
Other issues that can be fixed are lack of details regarding venue,
program and budget.

Subject: [Wikimania-l] Wikimania 2015 Bids to host are in
To: open subscription <wikimania-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
This is to let the community know that the deadline for receiving bids
to host Wikimania in 2015 has passed.
There are 6 bids at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2015_bids
Between now and April 1st the jury committee and community at large
has an opportunity to reach out to the proposers with feedback and
questions. This can be done via the proposal's talk page, holding a
public meeting with a bidder on IRC (#wikimaniaconnect channel on
Freenode); or via other personal means as you see fit. We also
After April 1, the jury committee will further evaluate and
deliberate, with a decision and recommendation made by mid-April to
the WMF and Wikimania Steering Committee.
Thanks again to all the bidding teams for all the hard work in
preparing the bid to host.

The examples include 24 hour Wikipedia editing drive...
I dont think anyone has ever done a 24-hour editing drive.
Ive been thinking about a wikidata editathon, where competitors edit as
many times as possible in a fixed period of time,. And/Or a minimum number
of edits per hour, and the winner is whoever keeps editing for the longests
number of hours.
Ideally it is done in a monitored environment in order to allow a Guiness
record to be established.
