Greetings,
I maintain a GPL'd dictionary off Arabeyes and wonder how could the above make use of it. It is English/Arabic based and has 87,000+ words and gets bigger by the day. I wonder if one of the maintainers of ar.wiki have an input regarding Wiktionary.
Regards,

Do you definitely mean GPL'd? Wiktionary is licensed under the GFDL, which is, unfortunately, not compatible with the GPL.
See * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License
We had the same problem a while back when trying to get permission to use the modified 1913 Webster dictionary which was under the GPL.
See http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikipedia-l/2002-August/004271.html, http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikipedia-l/2002-August/004327.html.
I'm not sure what the outcome was, but as far as I know, we couldn't use the modified version (though obviously the original version is in the public domain).
Angela.

Oh .. this is new to me ! I guess there will be no problem for re-releasing it under GFDL, as Arabeyes or Ahmed Al-rasheedan are the holders of the copyright .. please Ahmed ask the Arabeyes core team to agree on re-releasing the Wordlist under GFDL, so that it will be under both GPL/GFDL, that we Wordlist can be used for GFDL purposes.

I will. I am dying to see some usage for the massive work we have done at Arabeyes.

I am not a licensing expert but I will check. To my knowledge, our dictionary is available in source format.

I will cross check with Arabeyes.
