What about making the export to those formats available to wider public. Can we eventually bring these abandoned features back to the book creator. Could I help in such an effort.
This is important, but I don't understand whether the Labs instance you linked is a server which can be used by any MediaWiki wiki as renderer for the Collection extension ($wgCollectionMWServeURL).

Well for example you can feed it with a Wikipedia book like

and render the LaTeX, EPub and Odt version of it. The CPU-time for a single rendering process is limited to one hour, so keep a eye on the size of the book you intent to render. In the command line version of mediawiki2latex there are no such limitations and you can generate books which are not really useful due to there size like this one with more 6000 pages
