Deployment of the technology will happen in three stages. The first stage, launched today, is a public beta test running on WikiEducator.org of functionality for remixing collections of wiki pages and downloading them in the PDF format. WikiEducator is a project hosted by the Commonwealth of Learning and uses the same wiki technology as Wikipedia.
This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that Wikibookians have been dreaming about for years. What do you think are the chances that Wikibooks could be part of some kind of advance beta test or something? Maintaining "collections of wiki pages" (books), and providing PDF files is something that we do already by hand, and a simple technical solution would be a serious boon to us in that effort.
