Hallo.
I have here a simple version of the DVD tree:
http://www.kiwix.org/openzim-linuxtag-dvd/src/
Tommi, can you compile staticaly the zim binaries for x86?
Do you see something else to add/modify?

Emmanuel

I have tested the first file with Kiwix and it works although the rendering ist not really clean.
IMO we will have to take a little bit time at the Linuxtag, if I come, to see if something is wrong.

Great... and it seems that you have catch this bug yesterday ;)

Ok, the situation is more or less the same on my side:
* I have released the first betat of Kiwix 0.8 yesterday : http://tmp.kiwix.org/bin/kiwix-0.8-beta1+xulrunner.tar.bz2
* A new optimized released of the ZIM file in english : http://tmp.kiwix.org/zim/wikipedia_en_wp1_0.7_30000+_05_2009_alpha6.zim
This is not perfect... but should be functionnal and without big bug.
For this reason, I think these releases are the one for the LinuxTag DVD (if we have enough place for the ZIM).
Questions:
* What is the deadline for the ISO?
* Where is the architecture of the DVD?
* Do we have to upload something ? where?

Dear Wikimania Program Committee,
thank you for your interest and trust. I am glad to inform you that I
will participate at Wikimania 2009 and am looking forward to hold this
talk.
Some more indepth information for you and the reviewers:
* since April openZIM is supported by the Wikimedia Foundation, creation
of ZIM files is currently being integrated into the regular dumping
process by Tomasz Finc
* openZIM takes the content portion of the article's HTML and stores
that, without the "skin" around. The skin can be placed separately
inside the ZIM file and used by the reader when displaying articles, or
the reader comes with its own skin.
This is better than using database dumps because there is no need to
parse the Wikitext, it keeps the reader application as simple as
possible, on the other hand it is nearly improssible to write a full
wikitext parser which has all neccessary extensions and all templates
like MediaWiki.
See you in Buenos Aires,
Manuel

what we really could use are developers which have experience in
cross-paltform development / Windows porting.
We have a development system on openzim.org which can be reached by RDP / VNC
and runs Windows XP. Installed is also MinGW and Eclipse. For Symbian porting
(to run zimreader on Nokia mobile devices) we have the Symbian SDK installed
there as well.
So if you know developers we would be happy if you could get them into the
project.
There will be developer meetings at LinuxTag (24. - 17.06.) in Berlin or in
early autumn.
> P.s.: Sorry for the delay. In the meantime, I've sent Manuel the DVD.
Got it, thanks. I will look into it next week.
Greets,
Manuel
