Hi, All, Does anybody know what the meaning of rctype="external" in recent change list is. I saw a lot of this type of changes.
Thanks.
I'm not sure exactly what conditions trigger that flag, but I'm pretty sure the reason you're seeing so many rctype="external" edits is that interwiki links (usually links to the article in other languages), are now provided by Wikidata.
So my guess as to your original question is that these are edits triggered by some external factor changing, or made by an external entity (via AddBot in Wikidata's case).

That's right. When a change on Wikidata is made, it injects these rctype="external" entries into the local wiki so that the Wikidata changes can show up in the local Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist.
What about changes on commons.media.org? e.g. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArticleFoo uses commons.media.org/wiki/File:Bar.jpg, when the image file is updated on commons.media.org, will there be an "rc type=external" entry appears in en's recentchange list?
Thanks

You mean commons.wikimedia.org. The domain you mentioned does not exist, and is a subdomain of some other site.
e.g. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArticleFoo uses commons.media.org/wiki/File:Bar.jpg, when the image file is updated on commons.media.org, will there be an "rc type=external" entry appears in en's recentchange list?
No. Although that's not a bad idea, if someone could figure out how to make it happen.
