Hi,
Is it possible to retrieve content in different Chinese language
variants using the /w/api.php API? There doesn't seem to be a variant or
language parameter that would allow selecting a variant like "zh-tw" or
"zh-hk". Is there some other way to do this?
I checked the auto-generated API docs and the API:* articles but could
not find any hint on how to do this. I'm using an API call like this to
retrieve the article content:
http://zh.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?redirects&action=query&prop=revisions&rvp…
Thanks,
Jan
Would anyone be opposed to a "partial-content" call in the api that
would return a particular section of a media-wiki page.
This could be provided by adding a "rvpath=" option to the
"prop=revisions" call, that adds a path to a particular session.
So for example
api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&titles=Telephone&rvprop=timestamp|user|comment|content&rvpath=History.Early%20Development
would return the early development subsection of the history section
of the telephone article.
One would the need an additional call to return the section tree of a
document, perhaps:
api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&rvprop=sections.
The motivation behind this would be
(a) To reduce bandwidth use for certain types of queries.
(b) To prevent client programs from having to parse so much html by hand.
In this could be implemented on the server without too much overhead,
since the section tree could be cached, and needs to be calculated
when rendering a document to create tables of content.
Is this a terribly bad idea?
Is this syntax okay?
Thanks very much.

Roan,
Ok. I am waiting your mail with submit form to start test.

Thanks for the offer, I could really use a tester. I'll write up a quick
form to submit data later today.

Sure. You can check out the ApiEdit_Vodafone branch from
svn://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/branches/ApiEdit_Vodafone/ .
I'll drop another e-mail when I've added the submit form.

Yes. I've rewritten over half of the Vodafone code, and it seems to be
working now. However, I've only tested simple cases, and haven't
implemented (un)watching and CAPTCHAs yet.

Roan,
Did you progress on this subject (possibility to create/edit pages using
api) ?
Thanks and Brgds.

A partial implementation can be found in the apiedit_vodafone branch
[1]. I don't know if it works well, or if it even works at all, but you
could try it out. Editing pages through the API is not (yet) available
at Wikipedia, though. There are plans to finish this stuff, which
involve my Christmas break :-)

This was done in r30197:
* meta=userinfo
** Getting information about new users (a relatively new feature anyway)
has been moved to list=users
NOTE: This is NOT YET LIVE on Wikimedia servers, and no one knows
exactly when it will be.

Here's a list of recent changes to the API that break the old interface.
I'm supposed to announce them as soon as I make them, but I forgot about
that lately. Here they are:
* meta=userinfo (r30128)
** Now accepts uiuser parameter to get information on other users
** Output format has changed
** Added uiprop=editcount (r30080)
* prop=imageinfo (r29981, r30066)
** iihistory parameter replaced by iilimit, iistart and iiend
** iiurlwidth and iiurlheight parameters added
In the future, I'll post breaking changes to this list immediately after
I commit them (if I remember :D).
Roan Kattouw (Catrope)
action=paraminfo's return format has changed (r30151). Rather than:
<modules>
<help class="ApiHelp" />
etc.
it now returns:
<modules>
<module name="help" class="ApiHelp" />
etc.
With the old format, invalid XML would be generated if the module name
contained certain characters.

Hi,
I would like to preview pages modifications in a Java program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:NicoV/Wikipedia_Cleaner/Documentation).
Currently, I am using the following :
* API parse function to retrieve the HTML code
* Cobra for rendering the HTML code in my Java program (http://lobobrowser.org/cobra.jsp)
The only think I am missing is a basic set of CSS styles for the page to be rendered like on Wikipedia by default.
Is there a way to retrieve the list of CSS files that should be used for rendering ?
Otherwise, do you know what are the CSS files that I should use ?
Nico
