Hello
I am Rahul Maliakkal, 3rd year UG student applying for Google Summer of Code(GSoc). The idea that I plan on implementing is a "PRONUNCIATION RECORDING EXTENSION' .I have made a few UI Mockups in my proposal, I would like the feedback and suggestion from the WMF Design community
The link to my proposal: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Rahul21/Gsoc
Thank You
hi Rahul, I'll email you off list directly with feedback.
Thanks Vibha (Interaction Designer, WMF)

Thank you for helping!
On-list is good! Or in the talk page of his project.
This is good practice in general, and we are insisting on having all GSoC / OPW technical discussions in our community channels.

Yes, I would also prefer that (I am one of Rahul's co-mentors).
I think it's understood that the UI mockups aren't polished currently, and he's looking for all kinds of feedback.

ok great!
- Icons should never be much larger than the text or labels they sit next to, images and text need to work together in harmony to create instruction and action (adjust microphone size next to Record Pronunciation)
-We aren't quite using Black as a color for 'call to action' you might want to try a blue: See: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_Design/Color_Usage
-Avoid indentation with license selection.
-Interfaces must meet the squint test (when you squint at them you should be able to see the call to action and general information hierarchy. Color acts as a guide and helps users break interfaces up. In this case, Upload action should carry color.
-Simplify your Success Message !! (Use color and iconography) and avoid bullets. Success means done, not keep on reading. This approach of having lots of copy doesn't work anymore with users (yes, even users on Wikipedia) We are competing for attention spans, please be aware of this. Deliver the information but work hard to stay concise.
-All modals: The title bar carries an X and it carries a upload action. You might want to remove the 'x' and go with a simple cancel which is a light link on the left of the upload.
-You dont need an 'X' or a finish for the last modal, it should ideally auto close within a few seconds after doing its job unless there is a tech constraint here.
Thanks Vibha

Yes, good suggestion. Rahul, I can show you how to use the new mediawiki.ui module, which is a way to have standardized colored (in appropriate skins) buttons.

Thanks a lot Vibha :)
I will be glad to put in your suggestions and show the final UI to you!
Cheers!

Thanks Rahul! You are being sensitive to the UI along with your development work and that is never easy. Thank you for taking critique constructively. I'm Looking forward to the iteration.
