Hi Guys,
Cormac. You write what I think (better), so thanks. In the Wikiversity space, you’re probably one of the best promoters, especially in the Open CourseWare community’s space, which I think we both see as sharing a common aim with the WMF. The Comms problem is common to both. Perhaps their Comms tool development (and costs) could be shared, particularly the Real Time stuff.
Jay, you may be aware that wikiback started earlier this year, HYPERLINK "http://www.wikback.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm%22http://www.wikback.c... m/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm . It is one logical channel to mend some old wounds and tear down some project fences, while measuring some success pretty quickly. You’ll notice it already has two forums up = Wikipedia and Wikimedia Foundation. With a few more you’d probably find that as a cross border (project) meeting place, it’s a good start. You can measure the numbers so the evidence will mount for a more professional aggregation and distribution method, should the WMF, wikieducator and other semi related project communities find it useful.
And just so you don’t think this conversation about comms and strategy is taking place in isolation. HYPERLINK "http://www.wikback.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=6&pa... tp://www.wikback.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=6&page=1
Like every approach, it’s a matter of suck it and see. But I always use this one as an example because it’s about number three on Alexa’s Community of Practice measuring stick. (I’ve been told and still sceptical) HYPERLINK "http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/%22http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/ (just an example).
Sorry I couldn’t make the IRC. Regards, simonfj
