Kate Turner has added code to MediaWiki to load licensing information directly from the Commons when viewing a local image description page.
What this means is that you can go to, e.g., http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Aubrey_Beardsley_1.jpg and get the licensing information for that image from the Wikimedia Commons without having to "click through."
This has been a highly requested feature for some time.
This will only work for wikis that have been upgraded to MediaWiki 1.5. See Special:Version of your wiki to see if you have been upgraded already.
The text of MediaWiki:Sharedupload may need to be updated.
Many, many thanks to Kate for making this much requested change.
All best,
Erik

Other than the small hidden sentence "This file is a shared upload and may be used by other projects.", there seems to be no indication that the image is actually on a different server. As a consequence, I fear a lot of non-savvy users will hit "edit" and then be confused because the edit box is empty...

That can be changed at [[MediaWiki:Sharedupload]]. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Sharedupload for example which makes it fairly clear the information is from the commons.
