We already have the RSS feed, I can't imagine it's very hard to convert that into a Facebook app thingy. Should be called 'Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Day' or just 'Wikimedia Commons'.

Facebook currently has 94 'photos' apps http://www.facebook.com/apps/index.php?category=11 . I only noticed one 'general POTD' style one: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2447176338&b .
Anyone feel like a challenge? :)
cheers Brianna

Ok, I've got a pretty much working version now, it shows the POTD in your profile and gives a link to a large size version, as well as a link back to the image on Commons. I'm going to do some more tests before I release it to make sure there aren't any more hidden broken bits.

Stephen, this is great but... it does not refresh the picture of the day on individual pages. I've had the same image on my page for three days :(
And I'm not the only one, there's a bug report on the app page as well.
Cheers,
Delphine

Facebook loves caching even more than Wikimedia does, and I haven't yet found a reliable way to invalidate their cache of the image when used in profiles (the image on the larger page is not affected).
That's why I wrote:

But I suppose it's too late for that now :)

Ok, if you visit this URL just once, it should solve the caching issue. You shouldn't need to do anything else after this:
