Yann you're right about some acceptation of copyrighted works... To answer to Cary Bass, there're some examples in New York streets categories... I don't think that the architect of Apple store or some recents buildings are already dead... so it's a form of acceptation (reagarding fench law)
you're right also about the delay ... 70 years after the 1st january following the dead of the author... (sourcehttp://www.avocats-publishing.com/La-duree-de-la-protection-des) I Made a confusion with the american law before 1998 ...
So I'm agree with you, the deletion seems to be a little too reprehensive regarding some accepation and the law. I also note that there were very few person involve in this deletion request.
Sincerely Gdgourou

In the US (and many other places, but not France), the exterior or buildings, as seen from public places, falls under "freedom of panorama". So there's no copyright problem, and the date of death of the architect is irrelevant. Also, with architecture, it's always a question if the design is in fact are, or mere industrial design -- the latter is not copyrightable.

I wonder why we should consider the French law regarding American buildings. The American law allows freedom of panorama for buildings, so that should be enough for us.
What bother me most is the de facto tolerance for pictures of fairly recent French buildings, for which the French law has no similar exception. See for instance pictures of buidings by Jean Nouvel (Institut du Monde arabe and so on). It's true we also have loads of pictures of copyrighted outdoor artworks taken in countries where freedom of panorama does not apply.
