Chromium will support only Theora and VP8, Chrome to follow. Same as Firefox 4.
(How close are we to allowing VP8 on WMF? I understand Greg Maxwell, as one of those actually working on making the VP8 code drop usable, had some qualms about the code at the time.)

This is a big development.
WebM support will ideally not be a one off solution .. I would like it to include transcoding support so that if your browser only can view theora videos you can still view the clip that was originally in WebM or vise versa. Also its important because until flash ships WebM support the java cortado applet ( that can only play ogg ) would be the only way for IE users to access the videos.
And of course the normal benefits of transcoding such as not loading the HD clip for thumbnail sized version in a given article, and ensuring clips have a more consistent bitrate for webstreaming would be helpfull additions to our video support.
I hope to make some progress on this soon. And will be sure to announce any updates here and on the techblog.
