Well, I'm not sure if this is news to anyone or not, but Ford apparently releases a bunch of product shots as CC-BY. http://ford.digitalsnippets.com/ also http://www.flickr.com/photos/fordmotorcompany/

Ford don't describe their photos very well, and Wikipedia doesn't have an article on "car frame" so I don't know what this actually is, but I feel pretty confident it could be quite a valuable illustration. :)
Best that car nuts pick this one up...
cheers Brianna

Interesting. Did they learn something from http://www.boingboing.net/2008/01/13/ford-car-owners-are.html or is it a case of one hand not knowing what the other one is doing?

Seems like it was all a case of CafePress showing too much enthusiasm to take down stuff: http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/7999

Seems these release is their way of apologising for that.
Sorry, I'm not an expert on licenses and commons: this means I can download them all, upload them to Commons, categorize them and then use them in Wikipedia articles freely, right?

More or less. I would still avoid uploading any that are basically just a logo. check out http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=fromflickr & http://tools.wikimedia.de/~bryan/flickr/upload

Hmm... some logos are out of copyright, see http://web.archive.org/web/20070718020059/http://www.anglia-models.co.uk/for.... The current ford logo has been created in 1976 so is still copyrighted. The previous logo was created in 1927, so too late to be surely PD, but maybe it is out of copyright due to those weird renewal rules?
In any case, Ford is the copyright holder of the logos and they have the full right to release an image depicting the logo as CC-BY.
Cheers, Bryan

That is soooo freaking lame.
The website http://ford.digitalsnippets.com/ still has a generic CC-BY at the bottom, but there is no kind of statement that that license applies to the images, so it's not much good.
LAMEEEEEEEEE
