A new (US) district court ruling on the distinction between a derivative work and a collection in the context of CC-BY-SA licenses -

Looks like they came to the sensible decision - interpreting 'derivative' relatively narrowly. In this case, a CC-BY-SA image was used for the cover of a book and it was held that the license clearly did not extend to the rest of the book as a derivative work.
