Hi.
I'm looking for a few examples of *video* files contributed to Commons recording a lecture, performance, or other *non-Wikimedia* event at (ideally) a library, or a museum or archive. There are several recordings of Wikimedia workshops and talks given at GLAMs, but I'm interested in an example of a non-Wikimedia event held at a GLAM, whose recording was released under a free license and contributed to Commons.
I spent a good half an hour trying various category maneuvers to find something like that, but failed. Do you maybe have an example you are aware of that you could point to?
Thanks,
A.

Hi Asaf,
Will political speeches do? Commons appears to have a bunch of videos https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=17456170 of Bernie Sanders from 2015, politicians speaking at Yitzhak Rabin’s funeral, and others. There is also a category for videos of events https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Videos_of_events, including ceremonies https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Videos_of_ceremonies, festivals https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Videos_of_festivals and others.
Cheers, Gaurav

Thanks for the quick response! But no, I am specifically looking for the scenario where a hosting GLAM is recording and uploading video of a lecture, performance, concert, or conference taking place on the premises, *aside* from Wikimedia events.

Indeed we don't have good categories for this. An intersection of categories like "Videos by format" and "Cultural institutions" gives some results like: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AProf%2E%5FSchellnhuber%5Fat%5Fthe%5FConference%5Fof%5FPresentation%5Fof%5Fthe%5FEncyclical%5FLaudato%5Fsi%27%2Ewebm
And FastCCI immediately found this curious video: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Scottish_country_dancing_(Source).webm
What are you trying to show? Are you excluding videos imported from YouTube? If so, I've used: https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=17458697
It's easier to find some promotional videos like: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AMore%5FReal%5Fthan%5FReality%5FItself%2C%5Fthe%5FRoyal%5FArmoury%2C%5FSkokloster%5FCastle%5Fand%5Fthe%5FHallwyl%5FMuseum%2Ewebm https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3A%22Sharing%5Fis%5FCaring%22%5Fin%5Fmuseums%2Ewebm https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AOpen%5FCultuur%5FData%5F%2D%5Fapp%5Fcompetitie%2D%5Fresultaten%5Fen%5Flessons%2Dlearned%2Eogv
It's often reasonable to upload the raw videos to YouTube so I wouldn't exclude a video like this from OCLC and others: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ASupporting%5FChange%5Fin%5FResearc... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3A23%5F01%5F2017%5FDigitalisering%5F... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3A30%5F10%5F2017%5FArchief%5Foud%5FP... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AInauguraci%C3%B3%5Fde%5Fla%5FBibli...
Then we have countless videos from the White House which are often actually good but may not serve your purposes very well. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AGeorge%5FH%2EW%2E%5FBush%5FPreside... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3A20160924%5FPOTUS%5FAfrican%5FAmeri... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ARep%2E%5FJohn%5FLewis%5FAt%5FAfric... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ANational%5FMuseum%5Fof%5FAfrican%5...

Thank you very much for all these suggestions, Nemo!
What I was looking for, specifically, was a few examples of a GLAM institution intentionally contributing (directly to Commons) footage of a non-Wikimedia event taking place under its auspices -- a lecture, a concert, a reading, anything. I admit I am surprised at how vanishingly little of *that* we seem to have on Commons.
I guess I will encourage librarians to do this *without* offering existing examples. :-/

I have troubles understanding the meaning of "intentionally" here. When one chooses a free license for distribution somewhere, surely it's an intentional decision to see it reused in places like Wikimedia Commons. I wouldn't care about who physically clicks the button to upload the work to Commons rather than Internet Archive or Vimeo or PeerTube or YouTube.
A more interesting question would be whether entities create materials *specifically designed* to be used on Wikimedia projects, say a concert organised specifically to produce a recording to be used on the corresponding (public domain) work's Wikipedia article and Wikibooks pages. There were a few such cases but they're usually organised together with Wikimedia chapters.
-- a lecture, a concert, a reading, anything. I admit I am surprised at how vanishingly little of *that* we seem to have on Commons.
Concerts are nearly impossible to get copyright clearance for after the fact, readings are more often about modern works unless one is intentionally creating public domain/CC-0 material, lectures are used rarely on Wikimedia projects. We do have some things like https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:MIT_OCW_lectures https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:David_Harvey
I guess I will encourage librarians to do this *without* offering existing examples. :-/
That would be unfortunate.
Fondazione BEIC has just published under cc-by-sa some video messages from Italian professors and famous showpeople on the importance of libraries. I can transfer them to Wikimedia Commons if that helps your case! https://archive.org/details/2020-09_beic_stelline
I just uploaded this with my BEIC hat, is it cheating? ;-) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BEIC_-_Gli_Acta_Eruditorum_come_esem...
