Hi guys,
I keep coming across http://www.addthis.com/ . It's an easy way to share things on allmost 300 websites. Would be great if we had something like this on our image pages at Commons. You click it, select your site where you want to reuse the image and you're done. Clicking the image should bring you to the image page at Commons.
This would be a great way to promote reuse of our content!

As a point of information, embedding a widget like this as-is would be a violation of our privacy policy because it would send information to a third party on every pageview. The "Social bookmarks" template in use on Wikinews works around this by hosting site icons locally:
http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Template:Social_bookmarks
Erik is right that we shouldn't use addthis.com (or sharethis.com, or any other) -- those companies exist to collect aggregate data about what is shared, and some insert interstitial advertisements when you use them.
But, the idea of a sharing widget is a great one. I'd add it to the Commons TODO, except... well, there isn't one, except for the one Guillaume is maintaining, but this is really for the Multimedia project. (http://usability.wikimedia.org/wiki/Multimedia:Hub)
Maybe file a bug and mark it an enhancement?

Guillaume reminded me that we have this page to gather Commons bugs, so please add the bug (if you make one) here as well. It should be under the heading 'File description page'.

There's http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Social_Bookmarking (with the above mentioned issues).
But I think that Maarten refered to something different, like a box with html code or bbcode to embed it. What do we want, exactly?
Hi guys,
To dig up an old thread.

I guess we have a mind reader in our midst. The extra buttons recently added are exactly what I want :-D
