Yes, me too. Unfortunately, it is now 14 days to late to change the rules. Next year we probably will do vote per category or vote only for commons images, but we can't change the rules now.

While this is my opinion, I believe a number of other Commoners share it. I'd certainly like to see the Picture of the Year be one that was originally photographed or Illustrated by a Commons participant, rather than one that was found on a U.S. Government site or Flickr and uploaded.
