You could always get an anti-vandal bot set up, which may be able to spot vandalism faster than any human could. Obviously it wouldn't catch everything, but it's worth a try.

I don't think a bot could get this kind of vandalism. Using a page blanking bot could be nice but most work has to be done by humans.
I am happy to notice when I am patrolling new edits I get a often a edit conflict with somebody else that is also reverting the vandalism. But I am afraid not everything can be found while paroling.
Does Flagged Revisions also works on images?
We can apply Flagged revisions per namespace. This may actually be not a bad idea; given the high possibility that vandalism goes unnoticed on Commons file pages. I'm sure that most of our editors can be trusted to flag pages.
Flagging Commons File pages is also an easier job, because it's fairly easy to tell the difference between vandalism, garbage and legitimate edits on Commons.
Just a thought.

Isn't it a idea to have the anti vandal bot running the recent changes but also use Flagged revisions on only the File space.
We have a terrible lot of files (thats a good thing) and I believe not so many people patrolling the recent changes. While I have seen three complaints about vandalism that was there for more than 3 days this month. I believe we must try to keep Commons for the visitor so clean as possible
Best regards,
