Dear ones,
Where might I get or mirror a dump of Commons media files?
> It seems worth mentioning on the front page of
https://dumps.wikimedia.org/
> It looks like the compressed XML of the ~50M description pages is ~25GB.
> It looks like wiki-team set up a dump script that posted monthly dumps to
the internet archive; in 2013 it stopped include the month+year in the
title; in 2016 it stopped altogether.

In https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Quality_images/es where says:
"Hay actualmente *235 642* imágenes que han sido marcadas como imágenes de
calidad, lo cual es aproximadamente el $percentag de las imágenes
disponibles (59 506 030)."
must be say: "Hay actualmente '''<tvar|qinumber>{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Quality
images}}</>''' imágenes que han sido marcadas como imágenes de
calidad, <tvar|percentage>{{formatnum:{{#expr:({{PAGESINCATEGORY:Quality
images|files|R}}/{{NUMBEROFFILES:R}} round 5) * 100}} }}%</>de las imágenes
disponibles (<tvar|allimages>{{NUMBEROFFILES}}</>).
the translate tool doesn't work fine with wikicode. Regards!!!!
Hello everyone,
In Punjab, India, we have been working on GLAM Wiki Project with government
institutions of Punjab along with our community, a partnership we have
maintained over the last year with numerous meetings with the officials.
This year, like last year, we are putting a project grant proposed by Open
Heritage Foundation in 2020 round. We have successfully completed the 2019
project and are now moving forward with the second phase of the project
which has now grown in scale with a non profit that we have built and grown
over the past year.
Open Heritage Foundation is a non-profit based in India that works on
focussed GLAM initiatives in alignment with Wikimedia's strategic direction.
This project is a Glam wiki project centered around Community growth
supported by the GLAM partnerships for content generation, Integration with
Community engagement around Wikisource and Wikidata, Wikipedia integration
via the new tools we are creating in this project grant and the last and
one of the crucial elements of the project is improving and expanding the
readership scale for Wikisource project.
We will also be supporting other Communities via our micro grants and skill
sharing knowledge pool that we have collected and grown over the years.
We lack adequate sources for citations for curating local encyclopedia
content. To improve that, we need projects like these to generate that data
so we can document our local knowledge with adequate sources to support
that work, similar to the oral wiki project idea that talks about covering
the indigenous knowledge sources with non traditional sources of
information and knowledge creation.
Please feel free to ask any questions if you want to understand more about
the project or have any questions for more clarification.
We look forward to your feedback, advice and suggestions for improvement in
the proposal. We also welcome you to join us as Advisors and collaborators
to work together for the success of the project.

Hi all,
We (the Commons app team) are hoping to release a Commons iOS app this
year! :) We have received quite a few requests for it, so we have included
it in our Project Grant proposal:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Commons_app/Commons_app_Andr…
.
Additionally, we are proposing a few new features for the Android app, and
stability/code quality improvements.
If this sounds useful or interesting to you, please do take a look at our
proposal, and endorse it if you see fit. Or if you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to email me or post in the discussion page.
Thank you so much for all of your encouragement and support. We really
appreciate it!
Best regards,
Josephine / @misaochan (Commons app project lead)
Hi all,
We've just released v2.12 of the Commons app to production on the Play
Store[1]! :) This contains the legacy code overhaul that we've been working
on for the better part of the last year, in order to reduce
difficult-to-debug issues and create a better foundation for stability and
further improvements.
One of the goals in this overhaul is to prevent the issue of failed
uploads which has plagued our users sporadically for years. According to
our beta testers' feedback, this issue has been solved - however, if you
are using v2.12 (can be seen in About page) on a *fresh install* and you
are still experiencing failed uploads, please do let us know so we can take
a look at it. Also, as this version contains the most lines of code changed
compared to any of our other versions, it is possible that there may be a
few teething issues that we are as of yet unaware about, but we will try to
fix any reported issues ASAP.
Also, we have a new feature: Filters for place types and states in Nearby
Places! With this feature, you should be able to filter for (or filter out)
specific types of places that need photos, and also filter out places that
are on Wikidata but don't "exist" anymore.
Thank you all for your support and patience. :)
Best regards,
Josephine / @misaochan (Commons app project maintainer)
