Hi everyone,
Myself Anu G Enchackal ,GNOME Outreach Program for Women Round 7
Intern,working on UploadWizard : OSM embedding mentored by Gergő Tisza.
This project is about enhancing the image upload process for Wikimedia
Commons.The main goal of the OpenStreetMap map embedding project would be
to provide map interface & the integration with external databases to the
UploadWizard.The secondary goal is to integrate with some databases of
locations and use that in various ways. One way would be checking if there
are locations with requested images nearby (that is, someone put out a note
that Commons needs good images about a certain place and doesn't currently
have any), and warn the uploader about them.
****Week 1 ( Dec 10 --- Dec 16 )****
This week was spent mostly by navigating through the existing structure and
working on a link introduction within UploadWizard.
The present plan is to introduce a link next to coordinate fields within
UploadWizard , which can initialize the map widget onclick. Patch sets [1]
which replaces the existing 'Show on Map' with a link having the same
functionality are already uploaded to gerrit.
Expecting valuable comments from everyone

Just discovered a short note of Andrew Gray, why Flickr was preferred
instead of Commons.

Just discovered the Commons project-site, too. Good to break down the
massive amount of unsorted material in countries first. Could help to
address interested editors quicker.

Greetings!
Can you help us create a better multimedia experience on Wikipedia and its sister sites?
If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, we'd like to invite you to join a special Multimedia Meetup at the Wikimedia Foundation, this Monday, December 9 at 6:30pm PST.
This one-hour event will bring together dozens of developers and community members to discuss how we can use images, sounds and videos to help people learn more effectively on our sites.
To join us, simply sign up here:
http://www.meetup.com/wikimedia-tech/events/123456892/
We will start our meeting by presenting a vision for multimedia in 2016 and ask you how we can improve it.
We will then demo and discuss these new projects together:
* media viewer
* file feedback
* new video formats
* campaign tools
As a group, we will brainstorm new ways to view, contribute, curate, discover and use media files on Wikipedia, and grow our audio-visual knowledge base in the process.
This is a great opportunity to meet our developers and network with other like-minded community members. And we'll be serving free drinks and pizza to make this even more fun for you. :)
Images, sounds and videos can engage users more deeply than text articles, and better support their individual learning styles. To that end, we aim to engage more users to collaborate through multimedia -- by improving their viewing experience, increasing their media contributions, and making it easier to use media in articles.
We look forward to your thoughts on how to make this vision happen together.
Thanks for your consideration. We hope to speak with you soon, so we can plan our next steps with your help. :)
All the best,
Fabrice

Hi all!
There will be 2 overlapping creative communities for planning Wikimaps
1. Wikimaps Designers & Developers (GLAM & map Wikipedians,
OpenHistoricalMappers etc)
2. Wikimaps Nordic (Regional collaboration: Wikimedia chapters,
wikimedians, mappers and GLAMs from the Nordic countries)
This is an invitation to join the international designer & developer
community. Wikimaps Nordic will form a project community in the beginning
of January.
We’ll arrange a video conference with *http://videoconf.wikimedia.ch/
