the idea to reach out for schools and endow them with information earlier is
a big step towards ICT enhancement in the country. kudos to the architects
of the thought!

Hi folks,
The Wikimedia Community all over the world is busy preparing for Wikipedia 10. Please check: http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page for more info.
The Foundation will be sending some awesome Wikimedia paraphernalia including:
* tshirts (two styles, one a basic Wikipedia shirt and the other a Wikipedia '10' 'team shirt')* a pack of 12 Wikipedia 10th anniversary buttons, and simple Wikipedia puzzle globe buttons * paper labels with the Wikipedia tenth logo and style* and Wikipedia vinyl stickers* (and maybe some other cool stuff)
They'll also send out kits of 50 tshirts of varying sizes -- though if we're hosting a bigger event, they'll send out more.
Lastly, Ting will be arriving here on 9th Jan and departing on 15th Jan. He'll be staying at Laico Regency, and I do hope LR offers airport pickup as well (since he'll be arriving at 3am!!).

After reserving space for company officials plus organizers - that's us :) - the following are my suggestions for getting guys truly interested in Wikimedia's cause to attend:
* guys interested in attending could fill online forms giving a brief of why they wish to attend. We could use eventsbrite for this or something similar.
* liase with campus IT clubs and lecturers as they can assist in identifying guys to attend from their institutions.
* invite existing local Wikimedia contributors e.g. Kwc participants, Swahili article authors e.t.c.
As for the number of guests, someone mentioned 50. Well I see it hitting 100 - 150, what do you guys think?

I had stated that we'll also invite students + teachers as well in an earlier email. I believe that after Mr. Ting gives talks @ Uni's, students could also be informed about the anniversary. The problem with randomly inviting a crowd of students poses a threat of gatecrushing -- which brings me to the question: how many guests are we aiming at?

Hi guys,
I've created a Google spreadsheet below:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApSxzCRLATx0dElDTGVUN1dvclE5RjVhVl…
I've managed to plot in some of the public schools (see attached) that we are going to approach into the spreadsheet. Unfortunately, I don't know where other regions fall under. Please fill in the blank regions; start by filling in schools from the attached doc (i.e. public schools) before including private schools.
For the regions that I've already filled in the public schools, kindly do your research of private schools that have computers and fill them in ASAP.
Regards,
Abbas.

Hi,
Please do inform me if you want the Chairman to give a talk at any of your universities.
Just a reminder, for those who attended the last meetup: we had agreed that you come up with 10 schools from the 10 regions. I've filled some public schools. Kindly fill in some private schools to top up the list as we need to finalise drafting this proposal.
I'm working on the budget currently; and I hope to be done by Thursday. I hope that this project would be ready for submission to the Ministry of Education by next week.
Thanks to Oscar and Wangai who are working on geomapping the schools that we intend to visit.
~Abbas
Sorry I hadn't finished.
As I was saying I feel that we've been focusing on the company invites we had set out to the extent of being overwhelmed by the number of guys who might wish to attend the anniversary party. Just my thoughts, what do you guys think.
Abbas, the activities you've outlined for Mr. Ting to participate in are great. Plus I think he could be key towards forging a lasting partnership with the Ministry and various NGOs so we should definately organize for such meetups during his stay in Kenya.
Cheers!

Hi guys,
Mr. Ting Chen, the Chairman of Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees has agreed to come to Kenya. He is willing to plan a more expansive itinerary, rather than attend the launch only.
What came to my mind was to plan for him, say, a one-week itinerary. Since the launch is on Friday 14th Jan, he could probably come on Monday 10th January. The purpose of his week-long trip could be to create some Wiki excitement in Kenya.
* During his stay, we could schedule him to go round universities and institutions and giving out Wiki talks.
*We could also arrange a press conference or interviews with the press so as to raise the Wiki temperature in the general public as well.
*Thirdly, a meeting with the Ministry of Education. We could discuss ways in which we could partner in the future. Also, lunch/meetings with NGO's such as Safaricom & Ford Foundation to discuss ways in which they could offer us their support. I suppose when we meet these guys, we'll also get to remind them to attend the oncoming Friday launch.
These were my suggestions. Your thoughts and more suggetstions are certainly welcome.

Hi guys,
I know it's great for us to get support from local companies, but what plans do we have for potential Wikimedia project contributors. I feel we should reserve some space for such, give me your thoughts.
Sam, Oscar has a point I think you can be excused from work especially on a Friday afternoon. I still see Friday as the best day for this.
Cheers!
Alex!
