Oscar, I support the notion of budgeting for a known number of attendees. I also recommend
the use of invitations. What do you think of each of us, say getting 5 invitation cards to
distribute to our classmates/Wikipedians/friends etc?

Alex, that's a good suggestion you got.We have quite a number of
Wikipedia contributors, some frequent others not.The numbers may
overwhelm us and as such we may need a criteria to select the
invites. So far we are not sure of the budget and the grant.should we
wait for the grant before we decide on the number of attendees or
should the budget dictate the number of attendees?quite tricky there..
Or maybe we just involve the Volunteers in the Pilot scheme and then
expand it gradually?

Sorry I hadn't finished.
As I was saying I feel that we've been focusing on the company invites we had set out
to the extent of being overwhelmed by the number of guys who might wish to attend the
anniversary party. Just my thoughts, what do you guys think.
Abbas, the activities you've outlined for Mr. Ting to participate in are great. Plus
I think he could be key towards forging a lasting partnership with the Ministry and
various NGOs so we should definately organize for such meetups during his stay in Kenya.
Cheers!
Alex!

Hi Abbas,
In my previous post, I was actually inquring about inviting potential Wikimedia
contributors to the anniversary party.
Mr. Ting's visit to Kenya as you said will generate lots of publicity hence we should
expect alot of guys from various campuses and institutions to want to attend the
anniversary party. I feel like we have been focusing on the

Hi guys,
Mr. Ting Chen, the Chairman of Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees has agreed to
come to Kenya. He is willing to plan a more expansive itinerary, rather than attend the
launch only.
What came to my mind was to plan for him, say, a one-week itinerary. Since the launch is
on Friday 14th Jan, he could probably come on Monday 10th January. The purpose of his
week-long trip could be to create some Wiki excitement in Kenya.
* During his stay, we could schedule him to go round universities and institutions and
giving out Wiki talks.
*We could also arrange a press conference or interviews with the press so as to raise the
Wiki temperature in the general public as well.
*Thirdly, a meeting with the Ministry of Education. We could discuss ways in which we
could partner in the future. Also, lunch/meetings with NGO's such as Safaricom &
Ford Foundation to discuss ways in which they could offer us their support. I suppose when
we meet these guys, we'll also get to remind them to attend the oncoming Friday
launch.
These were my suggestions. Your thoughts and more suggetstions are certainly welcome.
