Hi people.am sure abbas will update you on the fact that the foundation has
agreed to send someone for the event.he requested me to prepare a planning
list of the event which ave done as below.
1)we need a budget that caters for
- a venue that has internet access
- tea/snacks after the event.
- a projector and microphones.
-transport for the letters deliverer.
2)i think we are budgeting for app 50 pple but its open for debate and
adjustment.
3)the budget needs to be sent to the foundation as early as possible.
4)letters need to be written and delivered to the guests before they break
for the holidays.
VENUE:
About the venue, our plan is to minimise costs as much as possible but still
have a quality and wonderful event.i have sent an email to sarova stanley
and safari park asking them to sent me the quotes for holding a half day
event from 2pm and serve snacks at the end and provide a projector and
microphones.i should have the price quotes by monday.anyone who knows a
hotel that does good outside catering should get into contact with
them, know the prices ,inform us so that we can compare.
Alternatively we could hold the event at the strathmore university
auditorium which is very beutiful and has free microphones, projector and
internet.its normally decorated very elegantly and all we have to do is
outsource the tea after.the university charges app 10,000 for corprate
oprganisations but i will confirm on monday. The university offers the round
tables and chairs.we could have the top students present some award winning
i.t projects during the event.(thats just my idea,if you guys oppose, then we
eliminate it)
our plan is to have a budget by next week friday so that abbas can foward it
to the foundation and we can set our minds on drafting the letter.( a
volunteer would be of help).
let us know your views, proposals and suggestions.
Hi Abbas and the whole team.please inform me what the components of a
proposal are.ave never written one and i have a vague idea.it seems easy but
am sure its not as simple as the idea i have in mind bearing in mind this is
a huge project.
Thanks
Hi guys,
As promised, I contacted Wikimedia Foundation regarding the issues raised in the meetup:
*Legal Standing
The Foundation does not recognise us as breaking any law: we are merely a proactive community.
*Identity
It's quite difficult for us to use the Wikimedia Kenya logo at the moment, since we are not an official chapter yet. Alternatively, we can print name tags, shirts with "Wikimedia in Kenya". Moreover, the Foundation is willing to give us a letter of support for the project.
*Launch of the Project
A representative MIGHT be sent to attend the event.
For those who didn't attend the meeting, Grace is working on the minutes and she'll post them up soon.
As Grace had suggested at the meetup, the letters from the Ministry and the WMF are sufficient enough to use when approaching schools. With that sorted out, I think that we should now finalise drafting the proposal so that we can submit it to the Ministry of Education.
Regards,
Abbas.
Hi,
let me take this opportunity to announce that it's most likely that our meetup be held on Saturday 6th November 2010.
Proposed start time: 9 or 10am
Proposed venue: iHub*, Ngong Road.
Agenda:
-budget
-methodology
-pilot
-publicity
-any other business.
*i believe most of us don't know where the iHub is. David, could you please direct us? Or should we all converge in town and you'll take us there? Alternatively, does anyone else have another venue in mind?
~Abbas.
