Hi All,
I am new to Meta, not sure how it is supposed to work with translations and support multiple languages. If I am wrong here, please correct me. Based on my experience at WT Shared and based on reading https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Interlanguage_links I think it works like this:
English page name -- some page in English English page name/ru -- that page translated into Russian
There seems to be a long history, near as I can tell, on Meta of allowing pages to be created and named in any language and not necessarily requiring them to follow the above naming convention. However egalitarian that may be, I feel it creates and promotes community dysfunction on Meta. I am not going to be able to change Meta's dysfunctional elements, I expect. However, to keep our Wikivoyage space on Meta functional, I suggest that we only permit subpages of Wikivoyage on Meta be either in English or translations of English pages on subpages of those English language pages using the English language page's name plus appropriate language code, eg Wikivoyage/English page name/ru.
This is how we did it on WT Shared. Shall we continue to do it this way?
Today I am cleaning up our Wikivoyage home on Meta, specifically the subpages of Wikivoyage. (I have transcluded a generated list of all our subpages at bottom of our home page on Meta, http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikivoyage.)
Among the subpages listed there I find these two that do not see to follow the above mentioned format for naming translated pages.
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikivoyage/ru/%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B2%... http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikivoyage/ru/%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B3%...
I believe the fix is to move these two pages to the English name of the pages with /ru appended to them instead of using Russian page names.
Could one of our Russian/English speaking members have a look at moving those pages please?
Or, if those two pages are really about ru.wikivoyage and don't really effect the other language versions, perhaps someone who speaks Russian could move them to ru.wikivoyage?
Thanks, Roger

Hi Roger,
these two pages were used when the Russian community voted for the name of the project. The two options were Викивояж and Викигид. The voting has been closed, with Викигид won. Both pages are linked from http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikivoyage/ru here. I do not see any reason why these should be renamed, and they are both historical anyway.
Cheers Yaroslav
Hi Yaroslav,
Thanks for your reply.
I believe the pages should follow this naming convention: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Interlanguage_links
I believe it is in line with the convention we used on Wikitravel Shared.
I will see if I can sort this.
Roger
