Letting people subscribe to and know of the existence of?the mailing list is a good idea at the moment. The user that sent this email is subscribed to the mailing list so we need the list admin (Erik at this point but we can have more) to unsubscribe them.
The list is already set so that non-members cannot send a message to it, but as you can see if they do subscribe to the list then they can post freely. We dont usually require list admin approval for subscription requests as this is a public list, but here are the options:
a) Require list admin approval for subscription - doesnt make sense to me as its not a private list, so you would likely approve that spammer anyways.
b) Set posts for new subscribers to require moderation (approved by a list admin?before they are sent to the list) - this could stop any potential influx of spam and legitimate subscribers could be unmoderated once they have posted.?
c) Remove the advertising of the mailing list from the site notice.
d) Do?nothing yet.
I think d) is the best at the moment, as?this email?is likely to just be a one off so we can unsubscribe and ban this spammer. If?the spam increases, then we could consider the other options.
Thoughts?
I think we are currently fine. It would be good of course to have several list moderators in different time zones - this post was an obvious spam, and I am sure it would be removed by any moderator who saw it first.
Cheers Yaroslav
