Yes, it was deleted because it was an unprofessional rant that reflected poorly on the Wikinewsie blog. Go read the BBC Editors' blog to see what posts should look like. Yes, you're not constrained by NPOV, but it isn't the place to attack the choice for the 2009 Wikimania location. That has next to nothing to do with work on Wikinews.
On the subject of the Wikimania location, what exactly is wrong with Buenos Aires? This makes it reachable for people in South America and gives them the opportunity to attend. The criteria you seem to apply mean it would never be held outside North America or Europe and such would be a great disservice to contributors from many other parts of the world who would be denied a visa to locations such as the UK or USA.
