Brianna,
Overlook this issue - there is a degree of resentment that a group of people sit on Wikipedia and work on the "In the news" section and don't actually get involved with Wikinews. I'd hope you can understand that a degree of frustration exists that these people don't open Wikinews accounts and do stub articles on what Wikipedia is going to cover. It is more frustration than persecution complex.
Wikinews is eagerly reusing and linking to Wikipedia. Were you to pick any article mentioning the U.K. PM Gordon Brown you'd get, first a link to our category with all the articles mentioning him, and second a link to his Wikipedia page. Should you start by clicking on the category link you should end up at a page with a link to his WP bio.
Wikinews is indeed the black sheep of the WMF family, we have a different license for a start. Not to mention our policies on original reporting. In some respects we are far freer than other projects because of the Original Reporting aspect, yet feeding this back into the rest of the WMF projects can be problematic.

Yeah, we're more laid back than Wikipedia, aside from when it comes to sources. I consider us the black sheep of the Wikimedia family; because to be honest some of the 'Pedia folks, I believe have some disdain for us,

I'm not a "Wikipedia person" by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a non-Wikinewsie who is nonetheless sympathetic to the project's aims and interested in seeing how it develops. If you want to have a persecution complex then that's your business, but my 2c is that it's not real helpful.
Sorry if I accidentally stumbled over an unstated norm in my original post.
