See the attachment for an open letter organized by dozens of Wikimedia affiliates asking for an immediate pause to renaming activities by the Wikimedia Foundation, due to process shortcomings of the 2030 Movement Brand Project.
I just signed the open letter described in the attachment.
Or just visit:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_open_letter_on_renaming
and some of the many pages it links to.
I propose that we sign this as the Wikimedians in Colorado User Group.
What do you all think?

Afternoon,
I'm a librarian at Fort Lewis College. I've held edit-a-thons for Art+Feminism and worked with Wiki Education in classes. Our marketing department has asked about editing the Fort Lewis College<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Lewis_College> page. I know that faculty and staff affiliated with the college can't edit due to conflict of interest and neutrality, which I of course told them. We currently have a committee on campus that is working on our history as an Indian boarding school. There are students on that committee and they are very interested in contributing to rewriting our history and making public contributions.
Is it also a conflict of interest/goes against the pillar of neutrality to hold an editathon or other event where students have the option of editing the Fort Lewis College page to include boarding school history or even create a new page together for the boarding school? We do have a Native American Center on campus that is not funded through the college who could host this event, if that makes a difference for conflict of interest/neutrality.
Many thanks
Cheers.

Dear Wikimedians of Colorado User Group,
We are inviting you to participate in Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP)
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos>, a new
global contest scheduled to run from July through August 2020:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos>
Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photo images, then
add a suitable file from among the many thousands of photos in the
Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki
Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc.) over the years.
WPWP offers a focused task for guiding new editors through the steps of
adding content to existing pages. It can be used to organize editing
workshops and edit-a-thons.
The organizing team is looking for a contact person at the Wikimedia User
Group level (geographically or thematically) or for a language WP, to
coordinate the project locally. We’d be glad for you to reply to this
email, or sign up directly at WPWP Participating Communities
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos/Participatin…>
Thank you,
Deborah Schwartz Jacobs (User:Deborahjay / debjay.wpwp(a)gmail.com)

Dear Wikimedians of Colorado User Group members,
My name is Samir Elsharbaty. I'm a community brand and marketing
coordinator at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm reaching out with an update
and an invitation to join us in the movement brand project.
Last year, we started the movement brand project
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_moveme…>;
a project to evolve the Wikimedia movement’s brand identity system. To do
this we have partnered with Snøhetta
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sn%C3%B8hetta_(company)>, an international
branding and architecture agency. Through workshops, exercises, and
requests for feedback, Snøhetta is working with Wikimedia communities to
create an updated naming convention and design, which will be used by the
Wikimedia Foundation and will be opt-in for affiliates.
As a Wikimedia affiliate organization, Colorado Wikimedians UG is an
important stakeholder in this project. I would like to invite you to become
part of a process to shape our global shared brand identity. Participation
is not time consuming but crucial to direct our work ahead.
Over the next five months, the brand team will be helping Snøhetta gather
community feedback at key moments. Your involvement would revolve around
receiving updates and providing feedback on proposals for a naming
convention and brand design. If you are interested, please select one or
two people from Colorado Wikimedians UG to act as a Liaison between our
team and your group during this process. We will send important updates and
all feedback opportunities to that person so that they can share with the
group and collect your feedback.
This process will arrive at a new branding system that you will be able to
adopt if you choose, so we hope that you will decide to participate.
In the meantime, here are main hubs for updates and discussion on this
project:
1.
The brand network on Facebook
<https://www.facebook.com/groups/wikipediabrandnetwork>.
2.
Snohetta’s project hub, brandingwikipedia.org.
3.
The project page on meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communications/Wikimedia_brands/2030_moveme…>
.
Please reach out to us with any questions or thoughts you may have.
I’m looking forward to collaborating with you!
Best regards,
Samir

Subject: [Wikimedia Summit 2020] Preparing a virtual Wikimedia Summit
To: Wikimedia Summit Participants mailing list <
wmsummit-list(a)mailing.wikimedia.de>
Dear all,
Thank you for your patience in these unique times. The good news is: there
will be a virtual Wikimedia Summit. We need time to plan, design, and work
with you all on preparation. We are currently looking at dates in May, and
will keep you informed as we move forward. This means, you can let go of
the blocked dates in your calendar, 3-5 April.
The virtual Wikimedia Summit will be the first in a series of virtual
events that move from engaging with the recommendations and closing phase 2
of Movement Strategy and transitioning into implementation, phase 3. These
events will be held over a period of 30-60 days after the Summit.
For the virtual Wikimedia Summit, we won’t change the participant
structure. We would like to use the Summit framework to engage with
movement organizations and groups, and work with them on creating an
understanding of the recommendations, taking their local or thematic
contexts into account. The following virtual events after the Summit will
be focusing on implementation, and will be tailored to meet the needs of
different movement stakeholders. We will work with experienced facilitators
and co-design the events with the respective target groups from across the
movement.
We have never hosted such a virtual conference – so it’s something
completely new for us, and maybe also for you. We aim for a program that is
focused on interaction and participation, and not one-directional. I want
to give you some insights into what we are thinking about:
-
To use the “virtual in person” most efficiently, we will ask
participants to prepare beforehand;
-
To accommodate different time zones, we aim to hold repetitive sessions
at different times of day;
-
To accommodate language difficulties, we are looking into subtitling or
language specific break-out rooms;
-
We want to pay special attention to engaging everyone equally, and find
ways to support the diverse contexts and habits of people working together
online.
Please understand that’s all we have to share at this point, and we will
keep you all updated with news and next steps. We hope you and those around
you are well. Please all take good care of yourselves.
See you on the Internet :)
Cornelius

Hello Wikimedians of Colorado,
How about getting together to take stock of our activities and plan a few
small things over the next few months?
We can plan to meet in Boulder or somewhere on the Turnpike one of the
evenings during the week of 8/26 (week after next) or week of 9/2 (Labor
Day week.) Let us know what works for you.
Thanks,
Abhay

The foundation is exercising abundant caution. As a representative of
Colorado with a chance to make our voice heard on a big platform, I feel a
little disappointed but in the larger scheme of things, it's for the best.

Subject: [Wikimedia Summit 2020] Wikimedia Summit 2020 in Berlin cancelled
To: <wmsummit-list(a)mailing.wikimedia.de>
Dear all,
It’s with regret that we have to inform you that due to the global health
situation (COVID-19), the physical meeting of the Wikimedia Summit 2020 and
related side events in Berlin have been cancelled.
Since we currently look into hosting the Summit in a series of virtual
meetings, starting at the dates of the Summit, please keep the dates
blocked in your calendar.
We are aware that this announcement will cause many questions (not only in
relation to the Summit). Please be patient, more information will follow
from our teams in the next few days.
Best regards,

I am ok with someone more deserving going. Let me know when and how to
deregister, once they have registered.
