A planning meeting tomorrow March 21 at 5:30 at Sanitas Brewery,
for the "Outdoor Women of Wikipedia" editathon event next Sunday,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Boulder
sounds perfect to me, and it sounds like we have at least 4 who can make it.
Cheers,

Hello Colorado Wikimedians,
Trust everything is well in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains.
I reached Berlin yesterday in the afternoon for the Wikimedia Conference
2017. I won't bore you with the details of my travels but suffice to say it
was long, tiring but uneventful (which is good :-}).
We kicked off with a meet-and-greet last night. It was good to say a number
of wikimedians I have interacted with in person over the last many years,
others that I have interacted online and yet others whom I met for the
first time yesterday. This is a passionate and (mostly) lively group. Some
are more outgoing than others but all of them are very much convinced about
the work they do for Wikimedia projects.
Both my 'buddies' in the Buddy Project were missing but I suspect that's
because of logisitical issues. I hope to catch up with them today.
We have a series of sessions for the day kicking off in about 30 minutes. I
will report on that at the end of the day or early tomorrow.
Cheers,
Abhay

I'd prefer meeting during the day if that works. Wed and Thu night are booked for me. I could make it Tue night if necessary.
Are we bringing our laptops to this meeting, and doing a little dry run?
What is the venue like - do we have our own quiet room, or is there typical bar activity to talk over or what?
Is there a screen to display things on that everyone can see?
Cheers,

Thanks folks! I'm back from a trip and catching up. I'm CCing the Colorado user group email list.
I've added the event to our local events page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Boulder
It might make sense to make a wikipedia page for the event also, like we've done in the past. See e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Colorado/Wiknic/2016
On wikipedia, my username is "nealmcb" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nealmcb).
If you all share yours (or we make and sign up on a Wikipedia page) it will be easier to coordinate things on wikipedia itself.
I also posted it to our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/wikipedia.boulder/permalink/108089220868181…
I suggest advertising widely. Having room for 35 sounds great.
I'm pretty open for a planning meeting this week also.
I also found this Boulder Art + Feminism event also, from March 8th:
http://events.colorado.edu/EventList.aspx?fromdate=2/27/2017&todate=3/12/20…
Did anyone go to that?
It lists Contact Information: Name: Jessica Brunecky Email: jessica.brunecky(a)colorado.edu
so she'd be a good one to touch base with!
Finally, there is some organizing info at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:How_to_run_an_edit-a-thon
note in particular:
Within a 24-hour period, only six Wikipedia accounts can be created via single IP address. If there's a chance you'll have more than six new editors at your edit-a-thon, you'll want to have a plan for how they'll create accounts.
They have tips for handling that, and also for advertising the event on wikipedia, e.g. via the geographic software notices.
Cheers,
Neal McBurnett http://neal.mcburnett.org/

Cool, works for me. Hopefully we'll be able to sort out all the details
like what Neal's brought up already, depending on when works for them.
Also, just a heads up, the mailing list is currently set up to
auto-discard email from non-subscribers (due to a bit of a spam problem
we were having), so your reply didn't go through (but it's included with
this anyway), but we're looking into maybe changing that. In the
meantime, if you want anything specifically sent, please just let me
know and I'll forward it along. (Or just send it directly and I'll get a
notification from the list and do it from there.)

Dear Wikimedians,
If you are a representative of an Affiliate, committee, or other
organized group in the Wikimedia Movement, please read this email
carefully and forward it to your peers.
I am writing you today in my role as the Movement Strategy Lead for
organized groups (Track A), and would like to encourage you to
actively participate in Wikimedia’s movement strategy process.
Together with you, we would like to find answers to the question “What
do we want to build or achieve together over the next 15 years?”
https://2030.wikimedia.org is the universal start page to the strategy
portal on Meta.
=This is our time! ==
This is the time many of us have been waiting for for years. I would
love to see each and every one of you make your voice heard and take
the chance to shape the future of our movement together.
=Timeline and process ==
The timeline up to Wikimania 2017 is organized in 3 consecutive
discussion cycles that are designed to explore, cluster and sharpen
the strategic direction and define 3-5 focus areas for the movement.
After Wikimania, we will discuss the movement structure, roles, as
well as 3-5-year goals and starting in 2018, organizations will
incorporate the findings into their strategic and annual planning.
Today, we are kicking off cycle 1 which is running until 15 April.
Organized groups will find all relevant information on the Meta page
for Track A.[1]
=Get involved! ==
Last week I reached out to all Chairs and EDs of Affiliates as well as
to active members of other organized groups and committees. While I
have heard from many, I would like to remind everyone to appoint a
discussion coordinator for your group that will act as the linker to
the strategy process.[2][3][4]
As an organized Group, you can invite all your stakeholders to join
your conversation: Board and staff members, members, external partners
and allies as well as members of your communities. Track A is closely
connected to Track B (Individual Contributors)[5], as many organized
Groups have close bonds with their local or thematic communities. We
encourage Track A and Track B coordinators to sync on their plans.
Your conversations can happen on- and offline. To host a conversation,
please read the discussion guide[6] that provides material to prepare,
conduct and document each conversation in each format. Before you and
your peers enter the conversation, please make yourself familiar with
the briefing[7] which provides a high-level overview of what we know
about the future and about our movement today.
I also look forward to seeing many of you at the Wikimedia Conference
in Berlin where we will discuss our future, generate thematic
statements, identify keywords and create thematic clusters of our
ideas. The rough outline of the program will be adjusted in the coming
days.[8]
Let’s make this happen! Please reach out to me with any question or
feedback you might have.
Sincerely,
Nicole

Hello all!
First off, as some of you may have seen, I will be doing some part-time
work with WMF on strategy coordination. We're all active on the projects
here and probably have some ideas that may bear bringing up. If you have
any, I'd very much appreciate hearing them.
Unrelated, but also relevant to WMCO, we live in a pretty massive state. :)
Given that, I've discussed the possibility of getting small grants for
expenses like mileage and meals on the road to photograph things like
smaller towns, abandoned mines, ghost towns, etc., for articles on Colorado
towns and landmarks where free photos currently aren't available yet. It
seems that's an idea they're interested in moving forward with. If anyone
would have interest in that, let me know as well.
Todd

As we mentioned last month, the Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve.
Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list,[2] and posted on Meta-Wiki.[3] Each month, we are sending overviews of these updates to this list as well.
Here is a overview of the updates that have been sent since our message last month:
Update 7 on Wikimedia movement strategy process (16 February 2017)
- Development of documentation for Tracks A & B
Update 8 on Wikimedia movement strategy process (24 February 2017)
- Introduction of Track Leads for all four audience tracks
Update 9 on Wikimedia movement strategy process (2 March 2017)
- Seeking feedback on documents being used to help facilitate upcoming community discussions
