Hi everyone,
It’s time for the fifth edition of the Coolest Tool Award!! 🎉
Tools play an essential role at Wikimedia, and so do the many volunteer
developers who experiment with new ideas, develop & maintain local & global
solutions, and enhance the experience for Wikimedia communities.
We’d like to invite you all to nominate your favourite & most used tools
and help us celebrate the people who create them!
To nominate your favourite tools, simply follow this link:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Coolest_Tool_Award#Coolest_Tool_Award_2024.
Feel free to submit multiple nominations by completing the form as many
times as you'd like. The deadline for Nomination is* May 10th 2024.*
For further details on the nomination and selection process, the Coolest
Tool Award Academy, and the upcoming award ceremony, please visit
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Coolest_Tool_Award.
The award is organized & selected by the Coolest Tool Academy. We plan to
award the coolest tools in a variety of categories (see last year’s
categories for an example). Excitingly, we're returning to an in-person
event for the first time since 2019, with winners set to be unveiled at
Wikimania 2024.
Thank you immensely for your participation and recommendations. Together,
let's celebrate innovation and collaboration within the Wikimedia community!
Regards,
On behalf of the Coolest Tool Academy 2024

Hi everybody,
There’s a workshop on describing images bulk-uploaded from Flickr to Wikidata tomorrow. This might be very specifically relevant only to my interests, but I thought I’d pass it along in case anybody is interested.
Cheers,
Gaurav

> On Friday, October 27, at 6:00 PM UTC, the Biodiversity Heritage Library is teaming up with OpenRefine and the Culture and Heritage team to host a data modeling workshop + demo using OpenRefine to clean and convert BHL's Flickr data to linked open data.
>
> In this event, participants from the OpenRefine Train-the-Trainer course <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OpenRefine/Train-the-trainer_pro…> and editors interested in biodiversity are invited to analyze, discuss, model, and work on preparing the metadata of some Biodiversity Heritage Library <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Biodiversity_Heritage_Library> images that were available on Flickr. The goal is to make these files ready to be used during the TTT course in November, but also to learn more about Structured Data on Commons.

Sorry, everybody — the following e-mail was sent to the Wikimedia-US-CO mailing list last Saturday, but I’ve been on vacation and didn’t see it until just now. I’ve added Annie to the non-member moderation list, so any future e-mails she sends us should go through without moderation.
This is probably a good opportunity to ask if anybody would like to become a moderator or administrator for the wikimedia-us-co(a)lists.wikimedia.org <mailto:wikimedia-us-co@lists.wikimedia.org> mailing list? We get some spam every week, so moderating non-members is necessary, but hopefully with more moderators missing urgent messages like this one will happen less frequently.
Cheers,
Gaurav
