hi,
While looking up on Wiki Loves Public Art, I noticed that the wiki
page for WLM 2013 is also up. I saw India's name missing in the list of
participating countries and was bold enough to add our name there.
It
would be awesome to make WLM 2013 more bigger and more collaborative
than 2012. If you're interested in being a part of the WLM 2013, please
sign up on this page -
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013_in_India.
warm regards,
Pradeep

I take strong offense to this mail and see it as an attack on Anirudh,
aka Sir Nicholas. He is a senior member of the community, an active
editor and administrator on the English Wikipedia, and a founding
member of the chapter. One doesn't need Indic contribs to be an Indian
Wikipedian. You might want to search again, or use a different search
engine. The community hasn't reached any low because of this but
because people are busy ranting out her and not contributing or
letting others contribute.

hi,
Today, we had the Mumbai event of Creative Commons. They are in India in February visiting Pune, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore.
We had a turnout of about 30-40 people today in Mumbai. We met at the Victor Menzes Conference Center at IIT-Bombay.
We began with a brief on Creative Commons in India, a brief idea on the various Creative Commons license and why to use it.
We covered extensive ground especially on areas that the Creative Commons is now being applied in - Culture, Education, Government and Science.
All in all, a good day with many Wikipedians in Mumbai turning up. Thank you for coming.
Our thanks to Prof. Shishir Jha of IIT-Bombay for help with getting the venue. We'd like to thank Jessica Coates and Jane Hornibrook of Creative Commons for spending time talking to us. They also expressed hope that they would be able to revive CC-India and an associated mailing list.
warm regards,
Pradeep Mohandas

We can [edit]! a hands-on Wikipedia editing workshop was organized by Wikimedia India Chapter for the students of K. J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology with an initiative from IETE-ISF student body. 52 enthusiastic K.J.S.I.E.I.T.ians filled the well equipped computer lab on the 6th floor at 3.30 pm.
The Workshop started with a short welcome & introduction of the workshop conductor Ms. Nikita Belavate-Executive Committee Member Wikimedia India by Ms. Sonal Joshi-Chairperson IETE.
Nikita then started the workshop with Wikipedia History and Overview & explained Wikipedia Policies to the future WikiEditors.
Login ID’s were created by participants using toolserver since the IP block could not be removed. Mr. Ansuman Giri from Bangalore being an admin on en-Wikipedia helped create the s user-accounts of participants. Total 50 accounts were created.
Meanwhile the participants browsed Wikipedia & were shown the different types of articles as per the quality scale-‘featured articles’, ‘good articles’, ‘stubs’. Certain articles were shown that were ‘Semi-protected’ as a measure to safe-guard them from unwary vandalism.
After most of the participants received confirmations for their accounts by mail & were ready with their logins, the actual ‘Wikipedia Editing’ began. Wiki syntax was explained followed by adding references (inline citations) & Wiki links, edit summary, view history page, watch-list etc.
Thereby we fixed errors in our college article as well as added some new content.
All the participants marked their presence for this first Wikipedia workshop in our college by signing the event page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Academy/K._J._Somaiya_Institute_of_E…
After vote of thanks & a hope that the statistic ‘60% of Wikipedia’s registered users never make another edit after their first 24 hours’ would be proved wrong, the informative workshop came to an end at 7 pm.
After the hands-on workshop all the participants had their hands on hot Samosas!
It was indeed a ‘editing evening’ for the to-be engineers & of course budding WikiEditors!
All the participants would be given a Certificate of Participation!
Images of the workshop can be seen here

Hi All,
Pune has just celebrated the glory of free and open source technologies in GNUnify 2013. Many reports and updates about the activities are coming soon. In the mean time those who had attended this stretch their tired shoulders and write long reports enjoy some photos and podcasts of few sessions uploaded on Commons: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:GNUnify_2013

Is it at all possible for all new members to committees, to go through some
orientation programme or be directed to some FAQs that they can go through
to understand the processes before they address the entire lists?
Thanks

Hello Anirudh & All the members of the India mailing list,
Some questions I wish to ask in general to all my fellow followers in India
& worldwide, please do not mind since being a new member to
this committee I may miss out on the background!
May I ask about who is the moderator over this mailing list?
And for what reasons is this action is taken on the Indian Mailing list?
Is this moderation known to other lists as well??
Are the other mailing lists/authorities notified about it??
Plus who gives this authority to the moderator to moderate a certain
mailing list??
Is there any selection process or criteria??
If yes can we all know about it.
And does the current moderator underwent the same criteria or selection
process?
Its supposed to be an open talk rite?
What if its like the moderator wants to discuss issues what he wants to and
rest is discarded??
This can happen right??
So next, is there any panel which keeps a check on the moderators??
If yes, can we all know about it also??
And the process through which every moderator is selected?? (eligibility
precisely speaking of)
If not, can we assume that the moderators claim the ownership on this
mailing list??
plus one last query, this mail, will it be moderated too??
if yes can you let us know to whom I can ask for a clarification over the
moderation of this mail.
Waiting for your quick response,
Regards & Thanks,

[Pardon the cross-posts - and the English message] - Please forward as
well!
Hi everyone,
March is Women's History Month, and this will be the second year for
WikiWomen's History Month, an *international* collaborative event that
takes place offline at edit-a-thons and online through project focuses.
Events and projects focus on improving women's history coverage on any
language project. We have a page on English Wikipedia, like last year,
to gather all of the events:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiWomen%27s_History_Month
So far we have events in South America, Europe and the United States.
I hope you'll consider throwing an event in your town, village, or city
- or do a women's history focus for your WikiProject - large or small!
