Hi Shrinivasan,
Commons is meant as a repository of media that can be used to illustrate articles and pages in Wikimedia projects including Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and Wikibooks. So, only photos that are likely to be used in such projects shall be uploaded. Please see the official policy regarding this at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Project_scope.

Friends.
We, Indian Linux Users group - Chennai [ http://ilugc.in ] have our monthly meet at IIT Madras.
We use facebook for uploading the photos as that is the service which provides unlimited space for photos. Check a sample event photos here. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.330997760245599.87661.1333597300094...
After knowing about wikimedia commons, thinking on uploading the event images to commons instead of facebook.
Is it acceptable to do so?
Please share your thoughts.
