Some of us discussed at WMCON that a local Wikimedia affiliate can sometimes get press-level access. This is a blog entry about just such an occurrence at Eurovision 2014.

I love the idea of getting press passes to special events, conferences, performances, etc. I wonder if there exists a press pass request form that has been used successfully by other affiliates. I don't know if acquiring a press pass is difficult because it requires certain credentials, if it is as simple as sending an email to the event organizer, or if it just depends on the event and staff... Worth a try!

Can anyone help me out here? I understand that they say I lack Wikinews history, but I thought this is the route we take to get press access. Is there going to be some *other* application for Wikipedia editor-photographers like me?

Not only that, but the "success story", Olsson aka User:abbedabb, has never posted to Wikinews as far as I can tell. On May 25, 2015 2:18 PM, "Dennis Bratland" dennis.bratland@gmail.com wrote:

Don't seek accreditation from Wikinews unless you plan to write for Wikinews. I say this as the person who issued press credentials for Wikinews several years ago.
