Congratulations!
I look forward to future collaboration between OCLC and the Wikipedia community.
Cascadia is lucky to have a super Wikipedian in residence in the region.

Hi Monika,
Congratulations. We've needed a Wikimedian to do outreach in the Seattle area for quite awhile, and I'd be happy to see you doing that as a part of your work with OCLC.
Looking forward to future collaborations,
Pine

Hey Cascadians,
I'm pleased to share that I've got a new hat -- I'm your new Wikipedian-In-Residence with the OCLC. I'll spearhead an outreach program between Wikipedians and public librarians. Hooray! This is such a timely and important project. Thank you Cascadians -- for helping me be a better Wikipedian.
The initiative will get rolling in the next week or so. I anticipate knowledge-sharing and collaborations in our locale and around the U.S.
Let
me know if you have any questions or would like to get involved. :)
Sincerely, Monika

This is right up my alley! I will be applying and would be thrilled to take this off the ground. Thanks for the forward, Lane.
I hope everyone is doing well and to connect with you about future Cascadia meet ups, I have my check to be a member for 2017, where
should
I
mail it?
Also if you have any questions about the invitation to participate in
the
Editing as Activism event at UW-Bothell, please let me know. I believe
it
would be a great partnership and event to have as a Cascadia meet up.
yours
Monika

Hello,
A few weeks ago wrote about a job opening for a Wikipedian who is
based
either in Seattle or in Mateo, California. I got some questions so I
will
share what other information I have, all of which is public. The
deadline
for applying is Friday 13 January. I wish that some good candidates
could
come from Seattle.
The hiring organization is OCLC, a long-time partner of Wikipedia.
They
hired a Wikipedian named Max Klein in 2012 who did a bot and database project that was a precursor to many contemporary Wikidata projects.
Since
then OCLC has sent staff to Wikipedia events regularly, particularly
to
Wikimania.
Earlier this year OCLC won a grant from the Knight Foundation to do outreach to public libraries. That is the focus of this present job opening. https://www.oclc.org/news/releases/2016/201612dublin.en.html I do not think that they actually got their full funding request, so
this
is not a high-budget project.
The Wikimedia Foundation gave them an additional grant to complement
this
Knight Foundation request. < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/A_Wikipedian- in-Residence_to_Engage_500_Librarians_and_their_Communities
In this grant, they say that they are offering compensation and
benefits
equivalent to 70k/year.
OCLC is a great organization. I do not have inside information on the position or the role but if anyone has any questions about wiki
outreach
jobs in general then feel free to write me.
Thanks,

Hello,
It would be nice if Cascadia could encourage anyone local to apply. <http://www.webjunction.org/explore-topics/wikipedia-libraries.html
One of the job requirements is living near one of their offices. One
is
in
Seattle.
