I will just add, in case there are any potential local organizers out there, Nov. 15th is the deadline to write a brief grant to the Foundation to get between $500-1000 for editathons, gatherings, WikiDay celebrations in January, whatever.
Richard from NYC, who is on this list, was very encouraging and could probably answer any specific questions you have. I'm thinking of maybe having something in Portland if I can pull it together this week when I return.

Well, it was just announced that next year's conference will be in Canada. Didn't know they were working on this already. But we could lobby for Vancouver over Toronto, location is not set.
Sorry to raise any expectations without knowing the facts.

I'm not sure who to direct this message to but I'm at Wikipedia
Conference
North America & I've had 6 different people suggest to me that next
year's
conference be in Seattle or Portland (and that is just on the first
day) Do
you think this would be of interest to this chapter? Are there enough members here to pull this off? Just planting a seed.

People attending from the NW include SounderBruce, Another Believer, RageSoss, & Peaceray, so I suggest taking with some of us. Let us not forget Vancouver, BC as well!

I'm in Northern Idaho, but Seattle's close enough that I'd consider attending. I can also help by remote.

I'd certainly be in, though this is not necessarily the time of year people would most want to be in Seattle.
How many people "on the ground" do you think it requires? How big is this year's conference?

I know someone in Toronto who was going to suggest their city. The
feeling
I got talking to some folks is that they were trying to have it be more accessible to others, having the event either away from the coasts of
the
USA (some one mentioned Detroit) or in other North American countries (Canada, Mexico). In this case I'd love to see it happen in Vancouver instead of Seattle or Portland.

I think they said there were about 300 people here. I was told that
there
are some regular planners who could help with the programming & scholarships, they need locals to find a venue (often a college) and
place
for receptions, scope out the hotel situation & public transit. And the Foundation helps out with funding, I'm sure.
And Vancouver is a possibility!
